Darrell Wayne Hanson, 78, of Fargo, ND passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Bethany Nursing Home on Wednesday, May 7 after a lengthy illness.

Darrell was born in Crookston, MN on September 18th, 1946, he is one of four children to Norman and Myrtle (Holte) Hanson. He grew up in Nielsville, MN and was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church and attended school in Climax, MN. While growing up, Darrell enjoyed basketball and hanging out with friends as well as helping his father on the family farm.

After graduation, on March 16th, 1965, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Topeka, KS. While enrolled in the Air Force in September 1967, he married and continued his service overseas in Scotland. On March 28, 1968, he received an honorable discharge to go home and help on the family farm due to the death of his father.

While married and living in Nielsville, MN he had his first daughter (Kim) in September 1970 and then a second daughter (Lisa) in February 1973. While raising his family he worked as a Custodian at the University of Crookston. He later moved to Grand Forks, ND to work at the Grand Forks Air Force Base a Carpenter and Home Inspector.

In January 1993, he retired from the Air Force Base. He decided to move to Fargo, ND to be closer to his two daughters. As Darrell resided in Fargo, he got to enjoy his daughters, Kim and Lisa, and watch them raise amazing families. He loved his five grandchildren; they were his pride and joy. He loved spending time with them and making sure he was able to attend any special event they had going on. He was an amazing cook, so we never had a meal that wasn’t cooked with love to be enjoyed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Myrtle (Holte) Hanson, his brother Gary Hanson and his brother-in-law Don Auteri. He is survived by his sisters, Debbie (Kevin) Braaten and Diane (Don) Auteri and former wife, Donna, the mother of his two daughters, Kim (Bill) Moser and Lisa (John) Hoard and grandchildren; Austin, Skyler, Zachary, Braxton, McKenzie and his nieces and nephews.

Darrell’s kindness and love for his family and friends will forever remain in our hearts.

The visitation will be on Thursday, May 15th at 9 a.m. at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. After the memorial, the burial will be held at St. Petri Cemetery in rural Nielsville, MN.
