Margaret Briske died on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at her residence in Fargo, ND, at the age of 88.

Margaret was born November 1, 1936, in Rolette, ND, the daughter of Arthur and Thora (Solberg) Berg. She grew up on the family farm at Bisbee, ND and attended Hardwheat Country School and Bisbee elementary and high school. After high school, she attended the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Grand Forks, ND, receiving a 3-year registered nurse diploma. She began her career in nursing at St. Lukes Hospital in Fargo in September of 1957 and held positions of staff nurse, supervisor, assistant director of nursing, and director of nursing for 25 years, until her retirement in November of 1998, as coordinator of nursing administration.

Margaret was united in marriage to Wilbert Briske on April 28, 1962, in Bisbee. Together they made their home in Fargo.
Margaret was a member of the American and North Dakota Nurses Association, served as secretary of the State Nurses Association, and was a member of the First Congregational Church of Fargo. She enjoyed spending time at the lakes, winters in Arizona, crocheting, and especially quilting with her sisters and other family members, Berg Family Quilters where they made and donated 3,999 quilts for many charities.

Surviving is Margaret’s son, Jesse Briske of Fargo; stepdaughter, Elaine (Alec) Brown of Craig, CO; step grandchildren, Heather Brown (Kip Kusner) and their children, Nicole and Jackson, and Justin (Cheryl) Brown and their child, Cadeyrn Brown; siblings, Lloyd Berg and Helen Grommesh; as well as nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Wilbert (2003); her parents, Arthur and Thora; stepson, Michael Briske; siblings, Connie Haugen, Laurel Hahr, Robert Berg, James Berg, and Lauritz Berg.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear of Margaret’s passing. I knew Margaret through church and remember her as a very nice, quiet person who always had a smile on her face.
