Abel Gracia, a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, left this world on May 22, 2025, age 47, from his courageous fight with cancer, surrounded by the warmth of family and friends.

Abel was born on May 22, 1978, in Raymondville, Texas, to Armando and Consuelo Gracia and grew up as the second youngest of eight siblings. From a young age, Abel exhibited an extraordinary passion for life, excelling in sports and bringing laughter to all those around him. He grew up in Uvalde Texas until he moved to Fargo/ Moorhead in 1992 and made it his home.

Abel obtained his GED and later received his CDL, creating his career as a truck driver. Abel was passionate about working at Friendship Inc. and helping those with disabilities. He dedicated 18 years at Friendship and spoke of the great times spent there.

Abel was known not only for his athletic prowess but also for his loving nature and infectious laughter. He was the type of person to give you the shirt off his back, to have the biggest smile, and to be there when you needed him the most. Family meant everything to Abel. His queen (Mom) was priority, and his unconditional love never went unnoticed. He would instigate BBQ’s and family gatherings where many of the fun times and memories were created. Abel also had a love for animals. Especially for his beloved dog Duke. Abel always said, “I just want to be better than I was yesterday.” He will be remembered for his bravery and selflessness.

In 2001 Abel was blessed with his first daughter Destiny and blessed again in 2004 with his second daughter Aaliyah. Abel always said his daughters brought joy to his life. He was a proud father and enjoyed every moment alongside Destiny and Aaliyah. His daughters meant the world to him and defined his entire life.

A talented pool player, Abel formed a close-knit community with friends through his love for the game, always sharing laughter and camaraderie across the table. Playing pool was a significant part of his life. His legacy of kindness and friendship will continue to resonate with those who were fortunate enough to know him. Abel’s pool family played a huge role in his life and meant a lot to him.

Though Abel has departed, his light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

Abel is survived by his daughters, Destiny and Aaliyah; mother, Consuelo; his seven siblings; Iris (Miguel) Sias, Julissa (Robert) Ybarra, Lorenzo (Gina) Gracia, Connie Gracia, Amanda (Jason) Vargas, Aida Gracia, and Nano (Kathy) Gracia, and many nieces and nephews, Cousins.
Abel was preceded in death by his father, Armando Gracia, and older brother Armando Gracia Junior.
And in the immortal words of Abel Gracia, “That’s what’s up.”

Guestbook

  1. I first met Abel in 7th Grade. I was getting bullied by some people, and my Bro stood up to them. He help me out in my time of need, He was my hero. I know he would say he was just helping a fellow man, but really he was a real life superhero. He would do anything for anyone in their time of need, which he did recently when his apartment complex was on fire. He was a family member to everyone he knew. He was that kind of person. I’m going to deeply miss him. I wish I could have seen him one more time. Love you Ramathorne!!!❤️ The Great die young! Thank you for being such a great person.

  2. Abel was my favorite uncle, he was a warrior but he was also one of the few people I knew that would take on the world barehanded, and win. Abel was the type of man to help anyone and everyone in his family no matter their transgressions he was a forgiving man, but yet if you messed with him he’d show a side that no one ever saw. He didn’t lose to cancer, he won by sacrificing himself to bring better and brighter lights to this already dark world.

Te amo Tio, rest well man, see we see ya.

  3. Love you always Abel and I will miss our conversations ♥️ Your one in a million for sure💕 Watch over your baby girls and family! See you again!

  4. My brother Abel Gracia a great and wonderful brother, he would always put others first, since Covid hit, he never really recovered, so he struggled financially not able to work, but when he had a little bit of money he would spend it on our mom,or stop and give a homeless money that would be standing in the side of the road, he had a big heart, and always wanting to spend time with family and friends, and loved his 2 beautiful daughters very much, also loved his second Family at Moorhead Billiards where he would play pool 🎱 tournaments or just go play pool, my brother was very strong, always positive and fought to the end to try to stay with us longer, but God had different plans for him, and is now in the heavens with Dad watching over us, till we meet again my handsome brother, you will remain in our hearts and never forget, Love and miss you so much❤️

  5. I am so sorry to hear this of you my dear friend. You fought a good fight, Abel, You are free from the pain now. Love ya, buddy. 💞

  6. Abel was a dear friend. He would always give great hugs and had an infectious smile. I worked with him. We would have so much fun and the day was never dull when he was around. He was humble, kind and compassionate. He wore his heart on his sleeve and would give his shirt on his back for anyone. It would not give a second thought to help those in need. I will miss him God needed a warrior and he was the best. No more pain buddy. RIP ABEL Until we meet again. Love ya forever. Lonie

  7. I met Abel and his brother Nano in 1993 in junior high in Moorhead. Such a great man! Both of them. Athletic is an understatement, I believe it was 7th or 8th grade, we were on the basketball court just playing ball and Abel decided it was his time to show everyone “what’s up”. No kidding, one foot in from the freethrow line, dunked it! We were 14-15 years old! Couldn’t believe it! The more I got to know him throughout the years, it really didn’t surprise me anymore. He excelled at every sport he played. His passion for sports was a just a blind comparison to him as a person. He would always look out for fellow students who were getting bullied. He would stand up to protect them and then be a friend. Sometimes we learn our best lessons from those of around us who just do the “right thing”. Those unannounced lessons are around us everyday. He was one that I was great full to know and he will be truly missed. Prayers to his entire family. Much love.

  8. My most sincere condolences to Abel’s entire family…He is definitely in a better place. May God hold him for eternity & forever rest his soul…🙏🕊
