Delores Vettel

delores vettel

May 31, 1936 ~ August 7, 2025

Born in: Hillsboro, North Dakota
Resided in: Caledonia, North Dakota

After many years of suffering with kidney complications, Delores passed peacefully with her children by her side.

Delores was born May 31, 1936, at the family farm 5 1/2 miles east of Hillsboro to George Valentine Ackerman, Jr and Agnes Mary Ackerman (Kneip). She loved farm life, especially the animals like the barn kittens. She carried a heavy load as time unfolded because she was the first of eight siblings. She attended Herberg Grade School and finished out her academics at Mount St. Benedict Academy from 1950 to 1954.

She met her future husband while a senior in high school at a dance in Halstad, Minnesota at the Legion Hall where dances attracted big time bands, in that day, like Chubby Checkers! It was there she met Kenneth Vettel from Caledonia, who knew immediately, “She was the one”. It wasn’t long afterwards Delores agreed because Kenneth was, “a very good man”.

They were married at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro on November 19, 1955. The couple was blessed with this legacy: first David (Kimberly), Rose (deceased), Ernest (Raylene), Kathleen (David), Diane (Michael) and finally Cynthia (Timothy) as well as 21 grandchildren and a growing number of great grandchildren.

Delores was a homemaker, and her family worked as a team at farming and chores. She was a constant support to Kenneth in all his farming, hunting and fishing endeavors. Delores would play music on her piano and organ while the grandchildren danced. She loved her family through her cooking. Was a lifelong member of St. Rose of Lima Church and a member of Riverside Homemakers, Christian Mothers, and Valley I Believe in Life.

Delores will be remembered for many wonderful things, but her love of family is what always came first.
