On August 10, 2025, Weldon Bryant Jr. traded in his earthly tools for a spot in heaven, passing away peacefully at the age of 78 after a courageous battle with bone cancer. Though the last few years brought health challenges—including a stroke this past July 4th—Weldon faced them the same way he faced life: head-on, with grit, grace, and a whole lot of heart.
Born on September 13, 1946, in Austin, Texas, Weldon grew up with Southern roots and a bold spirit. After graduating from L.C. Anderson High School, he joined the Navy and served four years aboard a ship in the Mediterranean during the Vietnam era. It was there, surprisingly, that he discovered his passion and talent for dental work—a calling that would shape the rest of his life.
After the Navy, Weldon followed that spark to Montgomery College (1971–1974) where he became a certified dental and maxillofacial technician, and later continued his training at the University of Texas System Cancer Center in Houston. Then came one of life’s most unexpected twists: a move in 1979 from sunny Texas to snowy Fargo, North Dakota. What was supposed to be a quick two-year stop turned into a lifetime of impact. Weldon planted roots in Fargo, even though—by his own admission—he was one of the only Black men around at the time and couldn’t believe how cold it got.
After his position at the Fargo Clinic was eliminated, Weldon didn’t miss a beat. In 1992, he launched his own business, Premier Prosthetics, where he specialized in facial and dental prosthetics. His work was not only groundbreaking—it was life-changing. In 1994, he was featured in the Fargo Forum for reconstructing a cancer patient’s nose, and at the time, he was the only one in the region doing this kind of complex and compassionate work. He poured his heart into his craft, and would have kept going if cancer hadn’t returned in 2023.
But Weldon wasn’t just brilliant at his job—he was also a total force of nature off the clock. A fierce racquetball competitor in his prime, Weldon ruled the courts and rarely lost a match. (He’d be the first to tell you that.) After the games and working out at the local “Y”, you’d often find him kicking back with his buddies over a cold beer sharing stories and laughter.
In his later years, Weldon cherished life’s simpler pleasures—traveling with his beloved wife Teri, relaxing on the deck with a drink in hand while smooth jazz music was playing in the background, and keeping his home and yard in perfect shape. He had a deep appreciation for a good scotch—Macallan 12 was his favorite—and outside of work, he was rarely seen without a beer in hand, especially when the sun was out. Weldon was Mr. Green Thumb, tending lovingly to his yard and a small jungle of houseplants that he treated like family. Above all, he was a proud and loving family man—always bragging about his son, daughter, grandson, and extended family. He loved every moment spent with them, especially their summer trips together. Weldon touched countless lives in the Fargo community and far beyond. He was known for his warm heart, infectious smile, his wit, his incredible talent, and his unbeatable sense of humor that he didn’t even know he had. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience—and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Weldon is preceded in death by his mother Ola Lee Thompson, father Weldon Bryant Sr., and sister Ola Mae Clemons.
He is survived by his loving wife Teri Bryant; children Damon (Sia) Bryant and Charia Anderson; grandson Daniel Bryant; sisters Helen Lott, Viola Thompson, and Bridgette (Daniel) Bolden; nephews Sean Lott and Solomon; great-nephew Blayze Jaxson Lott; and great-niece Brazil Solimar Lott, and we can’t forget his beloved “Bo Bo” BerneDoodle 🙂

I haven’t seen Weldon in many years; however, I worked with him back in the 80’s and 90’s (Ada dental office and Fargo Clinic OSX). He was an amazing guy who did wonderful work in the dental field. Blessed be Weldon’s memory. Tina

In memory of Weldon Bryant Jr.: I just wanted to share that Weldon worked with my Dad (Dr. Peder Pedersen) for a long time at the Fargo Clinic & he was invited over to our house for dinner quite a bit during the 70s. Even though I was a young child at the time, I was struck by his gentle spirit & wonderful demeanor. My Dad always spoke so highly of Weldon & his character. When I think of Weldon I see him smiling. We were neighbors in the Black building for years before the Kiljoy Group bought the buidling and kicked us all out. We talked Scotch many times. And yes, Mac 12 was our favorite. A truly great guy. I ran him into him at The Shack a while ago and had no idea he was ill. His retirement was all too brief. He will be missed

I was the person working at Fargo Clinic at the time who encouraged Weldon to come to Fargo for a job interview. I will alway’s wonder if he forgave me, I have to believe he did because we were best friend’s for more than forty plus years’s. I cherish all the good times we had together and I am glad I had the chance to tell just before he went to his heavenly home.

Weldon was one of my favorite racquetball buddies back in the day when we played challenge court at the Y. Whether he was your doubles partner or your opponent, it didn’t matter. He was a great sport, full of enthusiasm, and always uplifting to others. “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial;for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him”- James 1:12

Weldon was a every day customer at Metro Drug. He absolutely loved the chili. My sincere sympathy to his family and friends. I will say he was so kind and he was one of my favorite customers.

Well My friend it’s been a long time since that evening in 1979 in KFC on University Ave. in Fargo. More than 45 years we have remained steadfast friends. We kept in touch, although from distant locations once I left Fargo for California. We would always get together when I returned to Fargo to see my son, Chris. You were always ready with either a Stella or a shot of MacAllen #12. We, along with T.J watched a lot of NBA final games after our racketball days were over. From the time you threw one of my two favorite birthday parties (30th) until our 70s you have been a steadfast friend and until we meet again, I will miss you but I know you will have a shot or a Stella waiting.
