Deloris Lilleberg

deloris lilleberg

Deloris June Lilleberg, age 81, of Cummings, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.

Born on June 7, 1944 to Alvin and Evangeline (Beck) Soderberg, Deloris began her education at Wold #2 School west of Buxton and continued school in Buxton after her family moved there, graduating from Buxton High School in 1962. She earned a standard degree in Elementary Education from Mayville State College in 1964, later completing a four-year degree in the same field.

While in high school, Deloris met the love of her life, Darrell Lilleberg, and the two began dating. They were married on July 1, 1966, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Buxton. After a brief time living in Fargo, they settled in Cummings, where they farmed and spent their retirement years together.

Deloris began her teaching career in Carrington, ND, and later taught in Abercrombie, ND. After moving to the farm, she became an active partner in the farming operation, even driving trucks and grain carts during harvest season. Her talents extended to the home – mowing, keeping a garden, and decorating the home for holidays to name a few. She was also known for her incredible cooking and baking. Her lefse, kringla, rømmegrøt, and cinnamon rolls were family favorites, and her scalloped potatoes and tomato soup were often requested at gatherings.

Faith was central to her life. As a devoted member of Highland Lutheran Church, she was deeply involved in church activities. She cherished time spent with her family, especially travelling with them to Medora to see the musical. She also found joy in sewing, crafting, collecting, puzzles, and the occasional casino trip. Her grandchildren always made her eyes light up, and her smile and laughter were contagious.

Deloris is survived by her husband of 59 years, Darrell Lilleberg; her children, Cindy (Mike) Doeden of Hillsboro, ND, Paul Lilleberg (Kari Matthys) of Cummings, ND, and Teresa Kollasch (Darren Arndorfer) of Algona, IA; and grandchildren Ashley (Nate) Brunken and their children Lyndon, Rosalie, and Adeline; Kadie (Dominic) Miller and their children Tate, Zoey, and Kyra; Travis Doeden; and Dustin, Carter, Lilly, Marcus, and Emma Kollasch.

She is also survived by her sisters, Deb (Don) Sayler of Fargo, ND, and Ann Berry of Grand Forks, ND; her brother-in-law, Phillip (Betty) Lilleberg of Billings, MT; and her sister-in-law, Laurel (Harlyn) Erickson of Galesburg, ND; along with many loving relatives, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Evangeline Soderberg; sister, Betty Hotvedt; nephew Billy Hotvedt; parents-in-law, Irvin and Lillian Lilleberg; and son-in-law, Doug Kollasch.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Sorry to hear about Deloris. I have many great memories of being one of the younger cousins, but not too far behind her, visiting and playing both at her home in Buxton or at auntie Gloria’s. All the Christmas holidays and summer potlucks. She taught me how to make mud pies while playing house and that was one talent which I wasn’t all that good at doing. I will miss her Beck Norwegian brogue and she will always be Dolly to me.

  2. What a wonderful woman she was. Her family and faith were prioritizes in her life. She will be missed by many. Our deepest sympathies to Cindy, Theresa and Paul and their families.
