David peacefully, with family by his side, joined the expedition to the wonders of heaven on August 31, 2025. He was born at the family home in Hubbard County MN to Peder and Dorothy Christianson on July 2, 1944.

A 1962 graduate of Bemidji High, he joined the US Air Force in 1965 and was stationed in Trabzon Turkey and Yakota AFB Japan.

On April 9, 1966 David married his lifetime love Rebecca (Becky) Lea Smith. They were blessed with two children, both born in Thief River Falls MN; Daniel in 1973 and Sara in 1976.

He attended Staples Area Vocational School, earning a degree in Tool Design Engineering in 1973. His career in manufacturing included Arctic Cat in MN, Tioga Air Heaters in ND, A&S Tribal Industries in MT, and ASV in MN.

Upon his retirement in 2009, David and Becky returned to Bemidji, but in 2016 moved to North Dakota to be closer to their daughter and family.

David had a huge passion for hunting, bagging his last deer in 2024 when he was 80. Fishing, woodworking, gardening, and playing cards at the senior center filled his hours. He was well known for his chili expertise, good-hearted banter, and ability to laugh at his own jokes. And if you knew David, you knew he was a proud Ford owner! David loved being surrounded by family and friends.

David was an active member of the Honor/Color Guard with VFW Post 1260 of Bemidji. He also belonged to American Legion Post 16 of Bagley, Davenport Seniors, and was a member of Davenport Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rebecca, son Daniel (Pam), daughter Sara, granddaughter Sedona(Tristan) grandsons; Coltyn and Bryce(Meagan) and great granddaughter Emma. Sisters; Marcene (Nick) , Joy, Regina (Mike), sisters-in-law; Barb, Sharon and Kathy.

David was preceded in death by his parents, infant sisters Bonnie and Nancy, brothers Arnold and Harold, brothers-in-law; John, David and Ed.

Funeral service will be held at Davenport Lutheran Church in Davenport, ND on October 04, 2025 at 2:00 with visitation one hour prior.

  1. Dave and l met on an Honor Flight out of Grand Forks, ND. We hit it off right off the bat. I think it was because we both had the same job in the service. He was Air Force and I was NavyAir. He would tell me some fishing or hunting stories and l would tell him mine. Going to miss you buddy. I salute you and thank you again for your service to our great country. Lloyd Richardson US NAVY
