September 14, 1953 ~ September 26, 2025
Born in:
Fargo, North Dakota
Resided in:
Hillsboro, North Dakota
Jerry passed away peacefully, on September 26, 2025, at the Halstad Living Center, at the age of 72.
Jerry Warren McInnes was born on September 14, 1953, the son of Warren “Bud” and Margie (Larson) McInnes in Fargo, ND. He grew up on the family farm near Hillsboro, attended Hillsboro School, graduating in 1971. Jerry then attended North Dakota State University where he graduated with a degree in Architecture in 1977. During his time at college, he was a member of Theta Chi, known as “The Falcon”, making lifelong bonds with fellow members. Jerry thoroughly enjoyed his college years, the friends he made, and was always the life of the party.
Jerry began his working career in Detroit Lakes, MN, for Dynamic Homes. He made the decision in 1987 to make a change and move to Reno, NV – for the next few years, the western United States was his home. He lived in Placerville and Angels Camp, CA, before returning to Reno during his retirement years. A career highlight for Jerry was being inducted into the American Institute of Architecture in 1991.
In 2023, Jerry made the decision to return to his roots, back to Hillsboro, so he could be closer to his family. He had most recently made his home at the Halstad Living Center for the past few months. He enjoyed his time at the Living Center, especially growing close to the beloved resident dog that helped pass the time.
Throughout his life, Jerry always kept busy and active. During his younger years, he enjoyed little league baseball, 4-H activities – in the middle years, fast pitch softball and downhill skiing – and in later years, volunteering as HOA president at one of his homes and always loved a few rounds of golf. During retirement, he kept busy with the pastime of buying and selling stocks. Jerry was a lover of animals, especially his beloved dog, Chance – they were an inseparable pair. He lived a simple life, always enjoying just what he needed – nothing more.
Jerry is survived by his siblings – Allen David (Carolyn) McInnes of Phoenix, AZ; Janette Inglett of Sacramento, CA; Donald (Betty) McInnes of Hillsboro, ND; and Jeffrey (Chris) McInnes of Hillsboro, ND; his 10 nieces and nephews – Erin (Steve) Hanly, Colleen (Jason) Taylor, Eric Voss, Andy (Joyce) Voss, Christine McInnes, Karen McInnes, Michael (Kristin) McInnes, Amanda McInnes, Tyler (Stacy) McInnes and Brittany McInnes; and nine great nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Margie; and his brother-in-law, Gale Inglett.
Blessed be the memory of Jerry McInnes.

I have many fond memories of time spent with Jerry when we played together at their house or ours. Funny, kind, and smarter than all of us!! He solved the must difficult math problems in high school!! God bless all of you as you remember Jerry.
When Jerry was growing up, we were out of the country. When we got back, he had moved out of state, and we had moved to Texas. Therefore, I’m sorry to say, we did not get to know Jerry very well at all. It sounds like Jerry lived a full and exciting life with awards and all. May he rest in peace.
Jerry was a classmate and teammate at Hillsboro High. I recall riding a snowmobile from my family’s farm to his and shooting some baskets in his barn one Sunday winter day. God bless. May he rest in peace.
