Born in:
Hankinson, North Dakota
Resided in:
Hillsboro, North Dakota
Charles Herman Bommersbach entered into eternal rest on September 19, 2025, at his home in Hillsboro, N.D., with his sons by his side. He was the beloved son of Anton John and Rosa Katherine (Olig) Bommersbach of Hankinson, N.D.
Born on March 18, 1952, Charlie was the eighth of eleven children. In his younger years, he was known for his quiet, gentle nature and his striking blonde curls. He grew up on the family farm near Hankinson, where he was surrounded by horses and a variety of animals. Charlie graduated from Hankinson High School, carrying with him the values of hard work and simplicity instilled by his rural upbringing.
Chas was a proud truck driver with a lifelong passion for motor vehicles. He especially loved his Harley Davidsons and the many cars and trucks he owned over the years. The garage was his domain—there was little he couldn’t fix or create. Even without the right tool, Chas found a way, always resourceful and inventive. Known as a true “wrench,” he could make something out of nothing.
In 1981, Charlie married Suzanne, and they lived for several years on their farm near Rothsay, Minn. There, he would always lend a hand to his elderly neighbors whenever they called. He was often gifted homemade pies, jams, or pickles in return for his help.
Charlie is survived by his twin sons, Dalton and Dillon Bommersbach of Grand Forks; his beautiful granddaughter, Charlotte Bommersbach; his ex-wives, Lori Bommersbach and Suzanne Simonson; his brothers, Steven Michael of Watertown, S.D., and Martin John of Hankinson, N.D.; and his sisters, Joyce Margaret of Richfield, Minn., and Karen Eileen of Apple Valley, Minn. He is also lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins around the world, his dear friend Margaret, and many fellow Harley riders.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton J. and Rosa K. Bommersbach; grandparents, Martin and Karoline Bommersbach and Herman and Margarette Olig; his brothers, Anton David, Daniel Joseph, and James Francis Bommersbach; his sisters, Mary Beth Bommersbach, Marcia Rose Bommersbach, and Susan Johnson; his nephew, Christopher; along with many extended family members.
A celebration of life will be held at the Veterans Club in Hillsboro, N.D., per Charlie’s request, on October 11, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Love & prayers to all the family for the loss of a good friend-Charlie was sure one of a kind.
