Arthur “Art” Franklin Williams Jr. passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Sanford Hospice in Fargo, ND following a brief battle with cancer.
Services will be at 1pm Thursday, November 20, 2025 at the Fargo National Cemetery at 8709 40th Ave N, Co Rd 20, Harwood, ND 58042. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Sanford Hospice.
Art was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on September 2, 1942. Art spent most of his youth in France and Germany as his father served in the military. After graduating from Central State University in Ohio, Art joined the Army. He served a tour in Korea and three tours in Vietnam. Between tours Art married his first wife, a marriage which lasted 13 years. They had three children. Shortly after leaving the Army, Art was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Art met Marie Zundel in Minneapolis, MN, and they were married on March 30, 1985. They had two children together.
Art was an active member of the LDS Church, and with Marie served a church mission to Micronesia/Guam for two years, where they trained members on how to do their family history. Art was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren to the Red River where they would catch and clean their dinner. Art was also very active in local Vietnam Veterans efforts in Fargo, including working at the Fargo National Cemetery.
Art is survived by his wife, Marie and their two children, David and his wife Lauren, and Ashley and her husband Eric; as well as his sister Elisabeth. Art is also survived by his three children from his first marriage, Alison, Tracey, and Frank and his wife Arianne; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
