Betty Lu Duval, 86, passed away January 7, 2026.
Elizabeth (Betty) Lu Goldade was born May 28, 1939 in Wishek, North Dakota, to John and Clara Goldade. In 1944, the family moved to West Fargo where she grew up as the ninth of thirteen children.
November of 1954, Betty met her future husband, Fernand Duval, at The Crystal Ballroom in Fargo. The two were united in marriage on June 15, 1955, and built a beautiful life together. They welcomed four children: Judy (born 1956), Roxanne (1958), Rick (1960) and Janet (1963).
Betty was blessed to stay home and raise her children for many years before entering the workforce. She did a variety of jobs from cleaning houses to working at McDonald’s until 1972 when she began her first full-time job at Red Owl Grocery Store, where she enjoyed her work as a grocery checker. When Sunmart acquired Red Owl in 1988, she continued in the same role. In 1990, she joined Sam’s Club, starting in telemarketing and working in several departments over the years, eventually finishing her career as a door greeter. Everywhere she went, someone knew her ~ her warm face and friendly presence were unforgettable. She retired after 20 years of service at the age of 71.
Betty fiercely loved her grandchildren and was their biggest fan, rarely missing an activity ~ always heard cheering “woot woot!” while standing and pumping her fist in the air! She loved good times including cranking up her favorite music, their door was always open for family and friends to gather for a cocktail, or a home cooked meal always including laughter. In retirement, she enjoyed basking in the sunshine outdoors, watching the MN Twins, playing cards, laughing with her loved ones and spending time with her beloved dogs, Lucy & Lincoln.
Life is eternal and love is immortal. She will forever be in our hearts.

Miss you everyday I love you
Your niece Denise Goldade-Micken
I will always miss you in my heart ❤️ you are a loved lady .
I never forget we had a special moment play card and chatting.
Love you Aunt Betty
Hi, I’m sorry I’m not able to attend the funeral, but I just wanted to say a few words. My memories of Betty and Fern growing up on the farm and they would come out with the kids, was always some great times. She was always happy. When Judy and I lived together after high school we would be a bit mischievous with our friend Donna and a few times Betty had to sit us down and give us a talking to. She was a great lady. She will be solely missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family!! 🙏🙏
First my thoughts and prayers are the family of Aunt Betty. She was a special person in my life. I remember all of the stories she told me of the Goldade family and her so called “great moments with her husband Fern. I have found memories of her and my mom, Arla, yelling and gussing at the television when they were watching wrestling on TV. What I will miss the most, will be her smile, laugh and most of all the big heart she had for her family and relatives.
Worked with Betty at Red Owl and at Sunmart. She was always the life of the party always had a smile on her face. Deepest sympathy to the family.
