Born in: Norfolk, Virginia
Resided in: Fargo, North Dakota

Marlo Alexander Fulford, age 64, of North Dakota, passed away surrounded by love. He was born on October 16, 1961, in Norfolk, Virginia, to George and Ellamae Fulford. Marlo was raised in a large family as one of ten children.

Marlo developed a love for basketball at an early age. He played shooting guard for his high school team and was known for his strength, skill, and leadership on the court. After graduating from high school in 1979, he moved to North Dakota to be closer to his brother, George.

A man of many talents, Marlo found his calling in the culinary arts. He proudly worked as a chef at Cork ‘n Cleaver for 14 years before later sharing his skills at Mezzaluna for 3 years. Cooking was not just his profession, but one of his passions.

Marlo had a deep appreciation for life and the simple joys it offered. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Dallas Cowboys, the Oklahoma Sooners, and North Carolina basketball, and could be found watching sports year-round. He loved R&B and jazz music, often played loud enough for everyone nearby to enjoy. Marlo was especially proud of his barbecuing skills and would grill in any weather, even in the cold. In his free time, he enjoyed playing pool, gambling, watching classic western films, and faithfully tuning in to shows like COPS and The First 48, often joking that he should have been a police officer. Above all else, Marlo treasured his role as a grandfather and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was also well known for his sweet tooth.

Marlo is survived by his six children: Dom Smedberg, Cody Fulford, Kierra Fulford, Keshia Fulford, Alex Smedberg, and Krashonna Fulford; his siblings: Ella Fulford, Mary Fulford, Patricia Holley, Clarissa Fulford, Clareese Fulford, and George Fulford of Mandan; and his grandchildren: Jade Smedberg, Kareem Fulford, Kyrie Fulford, and Porter Fulford. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ellamae Fulford; and his sisters, Betty Heckstall, Sheila Fulford, and Jeannett Fulford.

Marlo will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for food and sports, and the joy he brought to those who knew him.

I’m shocked and sadden of the loss of my friend of 15 years. He was a father figure to many and he would listen to any subject with an open mind and help anyone who ask for it. He loved to cook, sports and his family- many called him uncle Marlo. He was one of a kind and he will be missed 🙁 Keep Cody, Kierra and family in your thoughts.

  3. My deepest sympathies to Marlo’s family. I am very sad to lose my friend and will miss playing pool with him and visiting with him about sports and his love for his family. The Good Lord will happily welcome this awesome chef into his open arms. Thanks, Marlo, for all the good memories and conversations. You will be dearly missed.
