Gerald Duane Worrel

Gerald passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at his home in Fargo, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Ethos Hospice.

Gerald Duane Worrel was born on September 13, 1932, the son of Arthur and Martha (Timm) Worrel, in Berlin, ND. He grew up in this area and graduated from LaMoure High School in 1950. Gerald proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 until 1954 while stationed in Korea. After his discharge he returned to North Dakota, making his home in Fargo.

Gerald was united in marriage to Virgie Ibach on September 26, 1959, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Fargo. They made their home in Moorhead, MN, until 1977, when they moved to Kindred, ND. Gerald worked his career at Monroe Systems for Business for over 30 years. During his retirement he worked for Ottis Farms near Kindred. The past years, Fargo has been home for Gerald and Virgie where they were members at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo. Gerald was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Gerald is survived by his wife Virgie of Fargo; his five sons – Michael Worrel of Fargo, ND; Wesley (Karen) Worrel of Slater, IA; John (Wanda) Worrel of Wahpeton, ND; Jason Worrel of Fargo, ND; and Daniel (Katie) Worrel of Kindred, ND; his grandchildren – Nathan Worrel, Jamieson Worrel, and Chase Worrel. Also surviving are his two brothers – Darwyn Worrel and Richard (Carol) Worrel; and his sister-in-law, Mary Lee Worrel.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Kenneth Worrel; and his sisters-in-law – Shirley Worrel and Jeanne Worrel.

PRAYER SERVICE: 7 PM Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center in Fargo – with a visitation one hour prior

BURIAL: 10 AM Friday, January 30, 2026, at the Fargo National Cemetery near Harwood, ND
