Frances Jean (Hammond) Woodbury, 79, of Fargo, passed away peacefully at Sanford Hospice house, Fargo on March 28th, 2026. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, and details will be shared once finalized.

Fran was born January 18, 1947, in Breckenridge, MN, to Floyd and Vera Hammond. Raised in Tintah and Barney, she eventually graduated from Wyndmere High School and attended NDSU. It was during her time in college that she began dating her husband, Roland Woodbury. They married on August 26, 1967.

Roland and Fran made their home on the Woodbury farmstead in Antelope Township following Roland’s time in the Army. They raised their three children there over the course of nearly forty years, during which time Fran worked as a paraprofessional for the Wyndmere and Colfax schools. After retiring, they moved to Fargo, where Fran found her niche working at the local Visitor Center. They later spent five years in Missoula, but wintered in Mesa, Arizona, during their time in both cities. They eventually returned to Fargo in 2018.

Frances is survived by her husband, Roland (Woody) Woodbury of 58 years; daughters Dixie Daleske of Waseca, MN; Kristi (Rob) Gappert of Missoula, MT; Brad (Michelle) Woodbury of Belgrade, MT; six grandchildren: Sophia Woodbury, Otto Daleske, Aiden and Autumn Gappert, and Everett and Elliott Woodbury; two great grandchildren, Aria and Anarah Badue; sister Janice Quam, and sister-in-laws Sharon Moffet and Denise Ness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Vera Hammond; brother James Hammond; father and mother-in-law, Ardy and Velma Woodbury; brothers-in-law Gary Woodbury, Gerald Quam, Duren Moffett; sister-in-law Joann Woodbury.

Fran never met a stranger and loved her family fiercely! Of all her accomplishments, she was perhaps most proud of becoming a ‘SPAMbassador’ at the SPAM Museum in Austin, MN—and she made damn sure everyone knew it!

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I remember with fondness the time I spent with Fran at a reunion several years ago in North Dakota . I had thought, at the time, how lucky Roland, my cousin, was to have her as his wife. R.i. P. Dear Lady.

  2. Im so very sorry for your loss of Fran. She was such a nice lady. Growing up in Barney as a kid, she babysat me and was a super and fun sitter. As an adult, she always made an effort to stop and chat with me when we would bump into each other shopping. May the Lord give you peace and strength as you endure your loss.

  3. Woody is my cousin and I had the pleasure of meeting Fran at one of the Bahr reunions. It’s funny that you wrote in the obituary about her being a SPAMambassador because she did tell me about it and I had the biggest laugh. I just recently told someone that story. I am sorry for your loss and may all your memories of her get you through the hard times! Heaven is lucky to have a SPAMambassador to walk through those gates!!

  4. Fran and I were friends from preschool, Barney Grade School, Wyndmere High School, NDSU, to present day. Many fun memories ! It is truly sad to lose the longest friendship I have had in my life.My prayers go out to Woody, her children, and grandkids, and to Janice. ❤️

  5. My parents (John and Cheryl) always had such a great time with Woody and Fran. I always loved hearing about their adventures in AZ together. I’m sorry for your loss and thinking of you all during this difficult time.

  6. I am sorry for the loss of Fran, I did not know her well; but knew her through Joann and Gary. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. LaVonne Aadland
