Rayder E. Rude

March 24, 1933 ~ May 6, 2026

Born in: Shelly, Minnesota
Resided in: Fargo, North Dakota

Rayder Erling Rude, 93, of Walcott, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at Sanford Health in Fargo. Rayder was born on March 24, 1933, in Shelly, MN, to the late Roy and Ethel (Nygaard) Rude.

Rayder attended school in Shelly and Climax, MN before being drafted into the United States Army, where he honorably served his country. Following his military service, he managed the local bulk fueling station in Shelly and went on to dedicate many years to several local businesses, including 15 years with CASE and 18 years with Red Owl. Later in life, he worked for Larson Farms, Braaten Farms, and Brakke Farms, while continuing to pursue his lifelong passion for agriculture through his own hobby farm, where he proudly raised feeder pigs and calves.

Rayder married the love of his life, Marlys Heglie, on May 11, 1957, at Walcott Lutheran Church. Together they built a loving home and shared nearly 69 years devoted to family, faith, and community. Rayder was well known throughout the Walcott area for his friendly nature, quick sense of humor, and love of visiting with others. He was a devoted member of the Walcott American Legion and Walcott Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his sons: Rob (Colleen) of Fargo, Randy of Walcott, and Ron (Laurie) of Marion, IA; grandchildren Riley (Jennie), Tim (Lindsay), and Nick (Alexis); and great-grandchildren Julian, Jayda, Brody, and Tatum, with two more great-grandchildren joyfully expected; sister-in-law, Marlene Rude; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Claire) Heglie, Keith (Delores) Heglie, and Mike (Denise) Heglie; and many nieces and nephews.

Rayder was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marlys; his parents; and his brother, Robert.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Mike Brakke, Wayne Farsdale, Jeff Heglie, and Claire Heglie for the friendship, companionship, and support they provided to Rayder over the years. Special appreciation is also extended to Randy for the loving care of his father in his later years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Walcott Cemetery Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice, although such gestures are entirely optional.
