Janene M. Paulson

May 12, 1959 ~ May 7, 2026

Born in: Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Janene Marie Paulson passed away peacefully at her home on May 7, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.

Janene was born on May 12, 1959, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to John Joseph and Joanne Desotelle. As the oldest of seven children, she naturally stepped into a caring role early in life and helped raise her younger siblings. She grew up in Wisconsin and Minnesota, graduated from Edina High School, and later earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from Minnesota State University Moorhead.

A talented artist, graphic designer, and realtor, Janene expressed her creativity through both her work and the life she built around her. She brought warmth, style, and personality into everything she did. In 2013 she moved to Bozeman, where her home became a favorite gathering place for family and friends. Filled with artwork, music, photographs, and conversation, it reflected the people and memories she treasured most.

More than anything, Janene loved bringing people together. Family was at the center of her life, and she took great joy in opening her home to those she loved. Whether hosting holidays, sharing music and conversation late into the evening, or filling her home with laughter, warmth, and creativity, she made people feel welcome and connected. She especially adored her grandchildren, who brought her endless peace and happiness.

Janene is survived by her husband, Craig Paulson, whom she married on June 29, 1996; her children from her first marriage to Mark Richardson: Katie & Nick LeSage of Omaha, Maggie Richardson of Moorhead, and Tucker & Katie Richarson of Moorhead; her beloved grandchildren Cooper, Orin, Chase, Lola, Lewis, and Banks; her siblings Jolinda & Kenny Ferrel, John & Deborah Desotelle, Jude & Lisa Desotelle, Jera & Mike Amoe, James & Anne Desotelle, and Joel & Jenny Desotelle; her mother-in-law, Arlene Paulson; and sisters-in-law Beth & Jim Heider, and Brenda & Kelly Beck, along with dozens and dozens of nieces & nephews!!

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Joseph, and Joanne Desotelle; granddaughter, Ellie Janene LeSage; and father-in-law, Everett Paulson along with many others whom she loved.

Janene will be remembered for her creativity, her welcoming spirit, and the deep love she had for her family. The memories created around her table, in her home, and through her art will remain with those who knew and loved her.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My deepest sympathy to Janene’s family. She and I worked on numerous creative projects over the years, some professional and some personal, like my baby’s birth announcement. Such talent and spirit and joy in one person. I have reminders of the things she created, including a personalized watercolor and her whimsywear painted clothing and jewelry. She quite simply made things better and always with a sense of fun. What a life force who now has her angel wings.
