Edwin (Ed) Cooke LTC USAF Ret., age 83, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by family and in the care of Hospice.

Born on May 21, 1943, in New Rochelle, New York, Edwin was the son of Burdette and Virginia (Eckstein) Cooke. He completed his higher education at Iona University, where he earned a degree in English, and later attended New York University before joining Office Candidate School. Edwin honorably served his country, starting as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and retired a Lieutenant Colonel after 23 years.

Throughout his life, Edwin showcased his creative talents as an avid cartoonist, contributing illustrations to various publications within the Air Force. His passion for art was matched by his love for gardening and woodworking.

In 1969, Edwin married Mary Nilles, and together they built a beautiful life, residing in various cities throughout their journey. They were blessed with a loving family that includes their children: Ed Jr., Elizabeth (Glen) Cuscino and their son Paul, Katie Cooke with her sons, Michael and Thomas Bohnert, and Karen (Steve) Bogol and their children, Lydia and Elise. Edwin is also survived by his brother, James (Barbara) Cooke. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Mass: 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Fargo with visitation starting at 10:00 A.M.

Burial: St. Leo’s Cemetery, Casselton, North Dakota.
