Dale Owen Hatfield

Dale Hatfield passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Sanford Hospice House in Fargo, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 91 years old.

Dale Owen Hatfield was born on October 23, 1934, at the family home in Caledonia, North Dakota, to Charles and Golda (Howard) Hatfield. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith and spent his childhood in Caledonia, where he attended school and graduated from Caledonia High School.

On March 11, 1955, Dale married the love of his life, Geraldine Jeffers, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, North Dakota. The newlyweds began their life together in a small apartment in north Fargo while Dale worked for Arvid Benson Supply in Moorhead, where he specialized in repairing small engines and furnaces. Dale and Geraldine eventually settled in Moorhead, Minnesota, where they built a loving home and raised their growing family.

Dale’s passion for working with people and innate ability to connect with people from all backgrounds led him to a successful career in sales. He began selling heavy equipment for Sweeney Brothers Tractor Company in Fargo before spending many years with General Equipment & Supply, where he remained until retiring at the age of 72. To Dale, customers were never just customers—they became lifelong friends. He valued every relationship he built and genuinely enjoyed serving others throughout his career.

While Dale was admired professionally, his greatest pride and joy was his family. Dale was naturally athletic, a quality he proudly passed on to his children. He loved all sports but was particularly fond of playing baseball and watching football. Dale enjoyed playing racquetball well into his 70s—often defeating opponents decades younger. Dale also competed in go kart racing where he accumulated many 1st place finishes. He also found great satisfaction working in his yard and tending to his garden, a lifelong connection to the farming community where he was raised.

Dale is lovingly survived by his children, Scott Hatfield of Moorhead, Minnesota; Constance “Connie” (Bob) Quiram of Elk River, Minnesota; and Steve (Kathy) Hatfield of Moorhead, Minnesota; his daughter-in-law, Sheree Jo Hatfield of Fargo, North Dakota; and his seven grandchildren: Rob (Kari) Hatfield, Jesica Hatfield, Courtney Hatfield, Charles (Nicole) Quiram, Jennifer Swantz, Rebecca Hatfield, and Trey Hatfield.

He was a proud and devoted great-grandfather to Mackenzie Hatfield, Sydney Hatfield, Madison Hatfield, Gavin Swantz, Gemma Swantz, Lucy Quiram, and Mason Quiram. He is also survived by 16 beloved nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Golda Hatfield; his beloved wife, Geraldine; his son, Greg Hatfield; his siblings, Maurice Hatfield, Merle (Lucille) Hatfield, Shirley (Jerome) Berg, Don Hatfield, and his infant brother, Charles Hatfield.

Dale will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, quiet strength, genuine kindness, and deep devotion to his family and friends. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, the friendships he built, and the family he loved so dearly. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.

Memorials are preferred to Caledonia Cemetery or Sanford Hospice House in Fargo ND.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 11 AM Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center in Fargo – with a visitation one hour prior.

BURIAL: 2:30 PM Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Caledonia Cemetery in Caledonia, ND where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife.
