Gerry’s service will be livestreamed below at 10 am, Saturday, August 22, 2026
Gerald Gene Schatz of Fargo, ND, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, surrounded by his family at Essentia Health.
Gerald was born on September 9, 1943, to Fred and Gladys (Boehm) Schatz on a farm near Edgeley, ND. He was the second youngest out of twelve children. He grew up in Fargo, graduating from Marmoth High School in Mandan, ND.
Gerald resided in Fargo, where he established roots and his legacy. He spent many years in all types of construction, specializing in concrete and remodeling.
On October 12, 1979, he married Elaine Gendreau. Their love was infectious and anyone who had the privilege of being around them felt it too.
In 1985, Gerry found a job he loved at Duffy’s as bar manager. His hard work and dedication proved how much it meant to him. The friendships he made there lasted a lifetime. He retired in 2005.
Gerald will be remembered as a devoted husband, for his love, care, and concern for his family, as a loyal friend, and one of the good guys. He had the ability to make those around him feel at ease.
In this time of grief, let’s honor Gerald’s remarkable life by remembering moments shared, the stories woven, and the love that will forever bind us.
Missing Gerald deeply are his wife Elaine; sisters Delaine Roquette, Verna Littlefield, and Anna Mae Bring; brothers Donald Schatz and Gary Schatz; and too many nieces and nephews to count.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Maxine, Donna, and Alice; and brothers Robert, Ralph, James, and infant-twin brother Jerome.
