Kay Nordenstrom, 82, of Fargo, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo.
Kay was born on November 30, 1943, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Aldon and Betty (Byers) Nystul. She grew up in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High School, where she met her future husband, Marlyn “Spike” Nordenstrom.
Kay and Spike were married on June 23, 1962, at First United Methodist Church in Fargo. Throughout their years together, they made their home in South Fargo, California, and Davenport, North Dakota. Kay worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota and later spent several years at Monsanto. She and Spike also shared an interest in buying and renovating houses and owned a construction business for more than fifty years.
Family was always at the center of Kay’s life. She loved spending time with family and friends and especially enjoyed having people gathered in her home. She was a wonderful cook, loved to crochet, and had a special fondness for peanut butter cups. More than anything, Kay loved entertaining. Her door was always open, and she found great joy in a house filled with the people she loved.
Kay’s faith was also an important part of her life and of how she cared for others. She was very active in her church and was a founding member, with her husband, of the “91st Prayer Brigade.” She opened her home to prayer groups, providing a place where others could gather in fellowship and faith. Prayer was not simply something Kay practiced; it was part of how she lived her life and cared for the people around her.
Kay is survived by her children, Denise (Roger) Christianson of Fargo, and Michael (Nancy) Nordenstrom of Fargo; four grandchildren, Vance (Kayla) Christianson of Fargo, Adam (Kayla) Nordenstrom of Devil’s Lake, ND, Corey (Madison) Nordenstrom of Devil’s Lake, ND, and April (Taylor) Keigwin of Ridgecrest, California; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
