Philip S. Reed

December 26, 1949 ~ September 28, 2026

Born in: Cheyenne, Wyoming
Resided in: Fargo, North Dakota

Philip S. Reed, 76, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the Fargo VA Medical Center.

Philip was born on December 26, 1949, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Ralph and Rosemary (Stevens) Reed. He grew up in Wyoming and graduated from Pine Bluffs High School in 1968. Following high school, Philip enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country for four years. His time in the Navy took him to the Mediterranean, including time living in Italy, an experience that remained an important part of his life.

After completing his military service, Philip returned to the United States and began a long career in government service. He worked at the Armory and later for the Department of Defense, where he remained until his retirement in 2004.

Philip married Karre Westby in 1995, and together they made their home in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 2000, they moved to Fargo, where they continued to build their life together. Philip and Karre also enjoyed their hobby farm near Dalton, Minnesota. It was there that Philip embraced country life and became affectionately known as “Farmer Phil.”

Philip loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also took pride in staying active and working out, and he was always up for a chance to go dancing. Philip had a sweet tooth as well and was known for “sneaking” a cookie or brownie whenever the opportunity presented itself.

Above all, Philip treasured the time he spent with his family. He especially loved being “Papa,” a role he embraced wholeheartedly and one that brought him tremendous joy. His family will remember him as a loving and devoted Papa who always enjoyed being surrounded by those he loved most.

Philip is survived by his wife, Karre, Fargo, ND; children, Shawn (Angie) Reed, Jennifer (Angel) Sanchez, Brandi (Luke) Ployhar, Joseph (Janelle) Kolle, and Candace (Joe) Walker; grandchildren, Marley Reed, Tory Reed, Eliza Ployhar, Mira Ployhar, Maxwell Ployhar, Orin Kolle, Cullen Kolle, Ruthie Walker, and Gigi Walker; and his brother, OD Reed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Rosemary Reed; and sisters, Gayle Fagan and Carol Pennington.
