Viola "Jean" Morast

Viola Jean Morast, known as Jean, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2026, at the Hillsboro Care Center in Hillsboro, ND.

Viola Jean Anderson was born on December 7, 1932, in Northwood, ND, the daughter of Harry and Melvina (Grande) Anderson. She attended Northwood Public School.

On October 24, 1949, Jean married Don Lee. They raised seven children. On December 26, 1987, Jean married Edwin Morast. They made their home in Halliday, ND. Edwin passed away in 2001. Eventually, Jean moved to Grand Forks, ND and lived in the same apartment building as her sister, Snooky. They made two moves together – first to Fargo, ND and then to Eureka, SD. In 2024, Jean moved to Hillsboro, ND, to be closer to family.

Jean spent much of her life as a homemaker. Foods such as dumpling soup, cream peas on toast, creamed chicken, and scalloped potatoes with sliced hotdogs are warmly remembered by family. Jean spent some of her later years providing childcare in her home. Her favorite pastimes included playing cards and following the Minnesota Twins.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Morast; her parents Harry and Melvina Anderson; Baby Girl Lee; her sons, Micheal Lee and Rod Lee; her grandson, Justin Lee; her sister, Eldoris Hanson; her brothers, Leroy Anderson and Wayne Anderson; and son-in-law, Jim Enger.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Diane Paulson, Bismarck, ND and Laurie Enger, Northwood, ND; her sons, Barry (Penny) Lee, Bismarck, ND; Tim (Terry) Lee, Hillsboro, ND, and Marty (Kristi) Lee, Dickinson, ND; her sister, Marilyn “Snooky” Sieg, Eureka SD; her brother Dale Anderson, Blaine, MN; and her sister-in-law, Janice Anderson, Detroit Lakes, MN. Twenty grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren also survive Jean, in addition to many nieces and nephews.

A mother whose love spans generations.
