David M. Ashmore

David Michael “Mike” Ashmore, 71, resident of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Tampa, FL, passed away peacefully on August 4th surrounded by his family at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND. Mike was born on September 14th, 1949 to Ellis and Mildred Ashmore at their home in Williamsburg, OH. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy, enlisting in 1969. His most memorable occupation was being an industrial painter at Busch Gardens in Tampa, FL for many years. Painting roller coasters was not for the faint of heart. He is survived by his wife of almost 20 years, Marilyn Sue Ashmore. His stepchildren Tara Williams and Amy (David) King. His grandchildren Sophie King and JaiSean Williams-Ansley. He is also survived by his mother, Mildred Ashmore, and siblings Beverly Ashford, Inverness, Florida, Barbara (Gary) Stowell, Williamsburg, Ohio, Brenda Anderson, Cincinnati, Ohio, Dennis (Kathy) Ashmore, Fairfax, Ohio, Belinda (Neal) McIntire, Winchester, Ohio, Dale (Cindy) Ashmore, Williamsburg, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Ellis Ashmore, sister, Beth Bingham, and brother-in-law, Charlie Anderson. Mike enjoyed the simple things in life. Good music, a fresh pair of Nikes, a fine cigar, a spirited card game with a few bucks on the line, The Price is Right, a tasty meal followed by ice cream, and a visit with great friends. Mike died knowing that Sue would always be the Jenny to his Forrest Gump, the Florida Gators will always trump the Seminoles and Hurricanes, and The Rolling Stones are still the best recording artists alive. Seriously, how are they still alive? All jokes aside, he was loved dearly and will be deeply missed by all. Lynyrd Skynyrd may have said it best, “But if I stay here with you, girl Things just couldn't be the same 'Cause I'm as free as a bird now And this bird you cannot change” Mike’s ashes will be returned to his home in Florida and a celebration of life held there at a later date. Notes of sympathy may be sent to: Ashmore PO Box 10185 Fargo, ND 58106

  1. Sorry for your loss and my prayers are with you and your family. I didn’t know that we had the same roots. Being a buckeye and then moving to Tampa was such a similar path. Needless to say, HE guides our paths. We are blessed every day.

  2. It saddens me to hear this. Mike always treated me well and was good for a laugh. My thoughts and prayers have been with the family.

  3. Sue. What a beautiful obituary. He will be missed by all of us at Tampa East. He was one of a kind with his dry sense of humor.

My heart goes out to you Sue & you & your family will remain in our nightly prayers headed by “Thunder”.
