Brian Friend

July 29, 1980 ~ May 23, 2021
Our beautiful son, Brian Paul Friend, 40, Fargo, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, due to complications from an acute subdural hematoma. Brian was born July 29, 1980 in Fargo, ND, to Helen Marie (Hering) and Tom Friend. Brian played football in high school and graduated from Fargo North in 1999. He attended NDSU for a short time and worked at numerous restaurants and nursing homes in Fargo as a sous chef and cook. Brian was a generous soul; a loving son, grandson, brother, nephew, and uncle. Brian was a kid at heart. He was the kind of person who looked out for others and always had a smile on his face. Brian was funny and clever. He loved to cook, eat, and sit out on the deck with his cat, Lola.
Brian is survived by his parents, Helen and Tom Friend, Pelican Lake; brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Amy Friend; nephew, Jackson; niece, Emma; nephews, Brody and Cooper; grandfather, Maurice Uerkwitz, Lafayette, IN; aunts, Mary Anne Hering, Becky Jacobsen (Jake), and Barbara King (Mark); and uncles Jim Uerkwitz (Maggie); Joe Hering (Roberta); Mark Hering (Kathy), and Kevin Hering.
Brian struggled with alcoholism most of his life. If you wish to donate in Brian’s memory, please consider the Matto Project of the Dakota Medical Foundation - mattofoundation.org - providing hope for those struggling with addiction.

Helen, I don’t know if you remember me, but I did an internship with you for speech/language during the 1992-93 school year. I just want to let you know how sorry I am about the loss of your son. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
Dear Helen & Tom,
