Bruce R. Dittmer, passed away on May 18, 2025, at the age of 76, at Lilac Homes, Dilworth, MN.
Bruce was born on December 9, 1948, to Lenora (Baumgarten) Dittmer and Reynolds Dittmer in Fargo, ND. Throughout his childhood he loved being on the family farm in Everest township and enjoyed caring for the livestock and crops. As an elementary student, he attended the one room schoolhouse in Everest. At the age of 13, a baby sister, Teresa, entered his life. He was a proud big brother and enjoyed showing her to the rest of the world.
He graduated from Central Cass High School in 1966 and then attended NDSU for a short time before enlisting in the army and serving in the military from 1968 to 1971. After returning from Vietnam, he brought Lee Dittmer from Vietnam to the United States and married her in 1971. They divorced in 1976, but Lee remained a close family member throughout Bruce’s life.
After returning from Vietnam, he worked on the farm with his father for about ten years; then, he went to Texas and worked on the oil fields for another eight years.
Adoring his niece and nephew, he returned to the family farm in 1998 to be closer to them. He doted on them, and they were “the sunshine” in his life. He showed them adventure on the farm, along with his love of gardening. In 2007, he suffered a severe stroke that left him paralyzed on the right side of his body and wheelchair bound, along with the inability to talk, read, or write; yet, even with these challenges in his life, his love and dedication to his niece and nephew remained steadfast —Bruce loved being a doting uncle to them.
Bruce is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Teresa Dittmer and James Garske; niece and nephew, Kristen Garske and Jordan Garske; and Lee Dittmer. He was preceded into death by his mother, Lenora Dittmer; and father, Reynolds Dittmer.
A Celebration of Bruce’s Life will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 11:00 am at Canaan Moravian Church, Davenport, MN. Visitation will be prior to the service starting at 10:00 am.

Bruce was a great classmate and despite his health issues, he fought valiantly and was able to attend our 50th class reunion years back.
He was a great presence and inspiration to us us all.
Blessings to his family.
