Chane T. Hegel passed suddenly in the early hours of April 20, 2025, in Fargo, ND at the age of 41.
Chane was born March 7, 1984, to Dwight and Kimberly (Duchsherer) Hegel in Bismarck, ND, joining his older brother Chad. He was baptized June 24, 1984, and confirmed April 25, 1999 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck, ND. He graduated from Bismarck High in 2002, going on to Bismarck State College for a short time before graduating with a bachelor’s in business from UND in 2010.
He worked through college with multiple moving companies and various sales jobs including Sears and Best Buy. He began working for the United States Postal Service in Grand Forks in 2012 and upon moving to Fargo in 2014 he became a courier for FedEx. He was an exceptionally dedicated worker, taking pride in the job he did, and finding joy with coworkers. He was known as a bright spot in the days of the people and businesses he delivered to as well as the dogs along his route. A smile, song recommendation, or funny story for the humans, and a truck always stocked with Milk Bones for the pups.
Chane had a passion for sports from an early age, playing soccer, baseball, basketball, and football in school. He learned to be a loud fan early on, being known as the “hurt player” on the team. After multiple knee surgeries, he cheered his high school football team on to two championships from the sidelines on crutches. That sports fan mentality continued with a love of Minnesota sports teams. He leaves behind a closet filled with Twins, Vikings, Wild, and Timberwolves clothing and a tower of hats so tall they run the risk of toppling over every time the back door closes.
He loved to learn by listening to countless hours of podcasts while on the road for work, and by reading. Books, news articles, and every single placard in the museums he would visit gave him the knowledge to provide fun facts about history, pop culture, sports, and everything in between.
A music lover, Chane was an avid concertgoer, and top-purchaser of TouchTunes credits (probably). The greatest honor for Chane was to see someone singing or nodding their head along to a song he’d selected on the jukebox. His calendar was filled with upcoming music and comedy shows, and though he had many “Top 5 Concerts” taking his niece Kylee to her first ever live show – Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Minneapolis, MN was always at the top of that long list.
Chane – also known as IROCC – was a dedicated gamer, spending a majority of his downtime on his Xbox. He loved playing any type of game, both alone and with all his friends online.
Chane met Erica Imsande through a mutual friend in Grand Forks, ND. His partner of 12 years, they built their life together in Fargo, ND. They loved to travel, go to RedHawks baseball games, spend time with friends, and frequent their local dive bars. On March 16, 2024, they adopted the light of their lives from Cat’s Cradle Shelter, their beloved cat- Keeley Jones Hegel-Imsande. He loved having his Keeley-Girl shadow him in the morning while getting ready for work, the 5am biscuits she would make on his chest, and racing together up the stairs before bedtime. He always let her win.
For anyone looking to get their fix of Keeley photos, Chane is survived by his loving partner, Erica Imsande; his parents, Dwight and Kimberly Hegel; brother, Chad Hegel; sister-in-law, Jessica; and much loved niece Kylee; brother, Myles Flying Horse; and sisters, Vedrana Hodzic, Nicole Gipp, and TaraLynn Maslowski; foreign exchange brothers, Arne Bremer, Kohei Shiomi, and Ahmed Shadman; aunt, Kathy Duchsherer; uncles, Michael Duchsherer, DuWayne Hegel, Darren Hegel and their families; paternal grandmother, Iona Hegel; and Erica’s parents, Greg & Kimberly Imsande. All have plenty of Keeley photos at their disposal and are more than willing to pass the smiles along.
Chane chose to donate his organs to help others one last time and will be cremated by Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mike & Karene Duchsherer; his paternal grandfather, Jerry Hegel; and uncle, Mark Duchsherer.
A memorial service is planned for Chane at Boulger Funeral Home at 10:00 AM on Saturday April 26, 2025, with visitation beginning an hour prior to the service. There is no burial planned, and Chane’s remains will keep Keeley company in their home and look out over the lawn he meticulously cared for, which Erica is sure to neglect in his absence.
