Clotine Rose Frear

Clotine Rose was born on October 8, 1928, in New Boston, Ohio to Clyde C. Rose and Olive (Frazee) Rose and passed peacefully, surrounded by family in Lewiston, Idaho on January 4, 2026. She grew up in Portsmouth, Ohio, and graduated college from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois with a degree in Home Economics. After teaching high school she became a buyer of bridal fashions in Columbus, Ohio.

She married D. Stuart Frear on January 14, 1956, in Portsmouth. They began their lives together in Xenia, Ohio before relocating to Fargo, North Dakota in September of 1957. She was a loving and encouraging wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend treasuring all those roles to the fullest.

She was a loyal member of the NDSU Women’s Club for over 50 years and loved having the opportunity to open her home and offer her hospitality to other club members. Her church and her faith were of upmost importance in her life. She held innumerable offices in the Episcopal Church throughout her years in Fargo. One of her most loved service opportunities was as bridal coordinator for Gethsemane Cathedral and the brides, grooms, and their families always held a special place in her heart.

Clotine’s parents Clyde and Olive, brother George, her brother-in-law Scott, and her beloved husband Stuart preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother John (Joy) Rose; her sisters-in-law Joann Falk and Ethel Rose; her four children, Dawnelle (Doug) Ax, Susan Frear, Michele Frear, and Craig Frear; her grandchildren Brian Ax, Derek (Breeanna) Ax, Carle (Trevor) Kling, and Marisa Frear; and her great-grandchildren Deacon Kling, Liana Kling, and Asher Ax; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

A celebration of Clotine’s life will be scheduled later in the year at Gethsemane Cathedral in Fargo. Any memorials in Clotine’s honor should be given to Gethsemane Cathedral or a charity of choice.
