Daniel’s service will be livestreamed below at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 21, 2025:
Daniel Holm passed away March 12, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in Fargo, ND, he attended Fargo Central High School while working simultaneously at the ND Grimm Alfalfa Association. After spending several years in the United States Air Force and North Dakota Air National Guard, he returned to academia to earn multiple degrees at Moorhead State University. His subsequent careers included music education, farming, and lutherie, but his greatest success was demonstrated as a source of strength and support as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, and brother.
As a boy, Daniel had a passion for music and organized concerts for his family. After his military service, he returned to this love and was soon noted for his virtuosity as a performer. Although offered professional performing opportunities, he instead chose to teach high school music where he imparted his students with an interest in diverse music genres. In fact, many of his students later became professional musicians themselves, and returned to tell Daniel the music they performed in Daniel’s high school choirs was more demanding and satisfying than what they had experienced in college.
In his late 80’s Daniel dedicated much of his free time to becoming a runner, participating in numerous 10k runs with his family members. He would often stop while training or racing to chat with random strangers, greet numerous dogs, and encourage others to cross the finish line. To say he was gregarious would be an understatement. Daniel also had a strong affinity for animals of all shapes and sizes, and an especially close connection with dogs and other dog lovers. He always had treats for them no matter where he was.
Daniel is survived by his wife, four children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends who were like family. He was preceded in passing by his mother(s) and father, eight brothers and one sister. His legacy will thrive through the lives he touched with his kindness, generosity, humor and gentle spirit.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, March 21, 2025 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo with visitation Thursday, March 20 from 6-8 PM and Friday an hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local animal shelter in memory of Daniel.

Dan was a kind hearted, caring man. We will miss him as our neighbor. May God give you peace.

“DH” was truly a man of excellence. He had the ability to bring out the best in others. I had always hoped I could have one more lengthy sit down conversation with him. I am grateful I will always have cherished memories of DH.
While age had changed him some, it had changed me much more. I had gained a little more wisdom and Dan had gained much. The earth will poorer without him and heaven will be richer.
Earliest memories of Dan are of me being the only kid singing in the church choir he conducted, and thinking I wanted to be the soprano soloist sometimes. Even to me as a 7-yr-old newcomer (1964), Dan’s passion for music and for people were obvious.
Singing bass under his guidance and direction WFHS (1971-75), I learned to value not only musical excellence, but courage to sing out, to MAKE that forte entrance boldly, to KEEP the needed focus and intensity in our pianissimos, to KNOW & SHOW what we were singing about in every language, genre and century…
DH’s kindness, wisdom and guidance did not end with graduation for me or for my schoolmates. He remained supportive and accessible for us as we grew. I’m one of his many students who continued to learn, love, teach and perform music, and guide others to do likewise.
Daniel’s passion for music and for life extends for beyond his family and the myriad students he taught directly. I fully expect to be singing with him and the many he loves when we join him at Home, at Jesus’ feet.

Dan’s love and deep affinity for choral music lives on and sings ON in the lives of the many he led and taught over the years at WFgoHS. What a great dude. Amen to his influence on us his students And on the planet. The ripples continue. Amen .
