Darryl J. Lutovsky

July 4, 1946 ~ March 21, 2025
Darryl Joseph Lutovsky, 78, passed away Friday, March 21, 2025 at St. Catherine South nursing home in Fargo, ND.
Born July 4, 1946 in Grafton, ND to Aloys and Gertrude Lutovsky, Darryl is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Rene’, children Jeffery, Brenda, and Matthew, grandsons Sebastian and Ryan, siblings Rick Lutovsky (Janna), Gem Grogan (Howard), Connie Kieley (Lee), Luni Kliniske (Steve), Ray Lutovsky (Linda), and Wini Sattler (Randy), sister-in-law Maureen Love and brother-in-law John Hoiland (Dawn), and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aloys and Gertrude Lutovsky, a sibling lost in a miscarriage, and his father- and mother-in-law, Burdeen and Mildred Hoiland.
Darryl developed a love of the outdoors and agriculture while growing up on a farm outside of Grafton, ND. After graduating from Walsh County Agricultural School in 1964, he attended North Dakota State University to pursue a degree in Agricultural Education. It was there he would become active in Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and meet his future wife Rene’ before graduating in 1968.
After enlisting in the Army in 1968, Darryl was wounded in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart. Despite losing a lung, Darryl made a full recovery and returned home to begin grad school and marry Rene’ on July 24, 1971. Upon graduating, Darryl began a career with First National Bank in Grafton, which eventually became Wells Fargo Bank, that would last nearly 31 years before he retired in 2003.
Despite a successful banking and consulting career, Darryl’s primary focuses were always his faith and family. He took an active role in his church wherever he lived, particularly at his final parish, Holy Cross Catholic Church in West Fargo, ND. His love of God shined through in his everyday life, whether he was bringing the Eucharist to those in the hospital, volunteering at St. Francis Thrift Store, or teaching RCIA classes for 15 years. He regularly attended daily Mass and took great joy in leading over 1,000 rosaries before service. He was also an active member in the Knights of Columbus.
In his retirement, Darryl also loved to travel with wife Rene’, enjoying pilgrimages to religious shrines in Fatima, Portugal; Lourdes, France; Mexico City, Mexico; and Vatican City, among others, as well as trips to the Czech Republic, Norway, and elsewhere.
Darryl also enjoyed working on his yard, playing bridge, reading, attending NDSU football games, and watching ‘Seinfeld’ reruns. Perhaps his happiest moments, though, were simply spending time with his loved ones. From marathon Hide-and-Go-Seek sessions with his grandsons, to games of Yahtzee with his wife and kids, to days at the lake with his siblings, he always found joy in the little things.
A prayer service and sharing of memories for Darryl will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 30 at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo, ND. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Darryl’s funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 31 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in West Fargo, ND. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Women’s Care Center of Fargo, St. Francis Thrift Store of Fargo, or the Holy Cross Catholic Church building fund.

Darryl was a man of deep faith and I appreciate his willingness to share it with others, including our Holy Cross morning men’s group.
Our parish will miss him, but he’s in his new heavenly home.

I fondly remember Darryl from our years working together on the Board for St. Francis Thrift Store. He was always so dedicated, caring, and kind…..a very patient man and excellent leader! He met problems head on and was always ready with sound advice. Heaven has welcomed a good man!! May he Rest in Peace….
Dear Rene’& Family. Arleeta & I send our most sincere sympathy on the passing of Darryl. I met Darryl in 1977 through our Bank relationships. Darryl being in Grafton & my being in Hillsboro. Our friendship grew over the years both professionally and personally. I sought his guidance on many occasions and always found his advise to be excellent, sincere and in my and the Banks best interest. His character was impeccable. His faith in our God unshakable. He was a role model for me. We are comforted to know he’s now with our Savior Jesus. I ask God’s Blessings to all of you.
I laugh because you can’t do anything about it.

My words can’t express enough how much I will miss you, your kindness, your understanding, our sibling teasing, your generous unselfish giving and just being there for me, and for the rest of our family.
I love you my sweet brother, and I will always cherish our wonderful memories.
It is so comforting to know you are in your new heavenly home, and praying for us, as we continue to pray for you.
