Daryl G. Anderson, 77, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND, surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Daryl was born October 12, 1947 to Kenneth R. and Agnes M. (Hansen) Anderson in Fergus Falls, MN.
He grew up on the family farm in rural Wilkin County, MN. He worked with the animals, tinkering with cars and made life interesting for everyone in his younger days.
He attended school in Campbel, MN and the Northwest School of Agricultural in Crookston, MN.
He joined the US Navy in 1965 and was part of the deck flight crew, which inspected the aircrafts prior to being launched. He proudly served on the USS Shangri-La, The USS Saratoga and on the USS Forrestal where he sadly was a part of the tragic accident on the Flight Deck on July 29, 1967. Daryl received several commendations for his heroic actions on that day.
He was a Vietnam Veteran and a member of the VFW and American Legion.
He returned to life in Minnesota and started a family. He was blessed with three amazing children, Darcy, Buffy and Anthony.
He also started being friends with Bill W. in 1972 and remained friends with them until his passing. He met and maintained life-long friends over the years.
While raising his family, he worked for Wil-Rich in Wahpeton, ND as well as Knapp Seed Farm while he attended NDSSS earning a degree in Business in 1977, which was just the beginning of a new world of opportunities for him and his family.
He moved to the Fargo Moorhead community in 1981, where he started working in the transportation industry.
In 1986, he decided to start his own company in logistics and trucking. This is the year ATB (Anderson Transportation Brokerage) was originated, a few years later this turned into ATB and Daryl Anderson Trucking.
These businesses flourished into an empire bigger than even he than ever imagined.
Daryl was also a member of the Fargo 50, as well as a recipient of the Who’s Who Award. He was a pillar of the Fargo Logistical Community.
He met the love of his life, Vicky in 1983 and the were wed on November 10, 1984 at Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo, ND. With this new life he was blessed by adding Vicky’s two children, Jana and John, whom he loved as his own. Their love story was the stuff books were made of. They built a beautiful life, home, family and most of all memories in their 38 years of marriage.
Throughout the years they started spending the winter months in Arizona. They eventually decided to make a home there, until their health started to decline and they returned back home in North Dakota to be closer to their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Daryl was an avid golfer, he got his one and only, hole in one on February 3, 2015, while playing Painted Mountain in Mesa, AZ.
He was the master of homemade french fries, skilled prime rib master. His green chili was often imitated, but his was THE best.
Over the years, his title changed from Dad to Grandpa. He cherished his time with his grandkids and great grandkids. He spent years taking his Grandchildren to “the Grandpa movie” every Christmas season. Daryl’s grandchildren meant the world to him. His eyes would twinkle and smile when he would talk about them as well as his children.
He is survived by his children, Darcy Anderson of West Fargo, Buffy (Ricky) Holbrook of Fargo, Anthony (Jessica) Anderson of Fargo, and Jana (Shawn) Tronier of Fargo, sister Sandra Nystrom, Casselton, brother Larry (Sandy) Anderson, Maple Grove, uncle Harold Hansen, Alaska. His Grandchildren Jordan Tronier and partner Juliana, Garrett (Shelby) Anderson, Samantha Edenborg, Zane Christianson, Michelle Anderson, Josh Tronier and partner Sadie, Erica Christianson and partner Hunter, Hannah Anderson, Gabrielle (Josh) Osier and Lucian Anderson.

He was proceeded in death and greeted in Heaven by his loving wife, Vicky, his parents; mother and father-in-law, brothers Gene and Martin, and son, John Christianson.

I lived next door to Ken and Agnes when I move here in 1987. After Ken died, and Agnes moved back to be with her family, Daryl and Vicky took over to be best friends, here in Mesa. Ted and I were always invited to go to Garcia’s for Mexican food. What a special friendship we all had. Love and Prayers to family and friends.
He always beamed when he was talking about Ted and Sandy. One of the first times we came to visit as a family is a memorable one. Ted was gently teasing Lucian about his Cheez Itz saying he was going to eat them with a big smile on his face. Then you invited us over for a delicious Pot Roast meal with all of the trimmings cooked by you during another visit. I sat and marveled at Ted’s spectacular photography. You guys were terrific friends to both of them. Thank you.
So sorry for your loss! We enjoyed our time spent with Daryl and Vicky. May they both RIP now. John and Tami Vigen

A favorite memory of Daryl are so many that it is hard to state just one. He befriended me when we both were in Fargo and at a low time in my life. He was a tease and a hero to me when we were young and playing baseball in the front yard of their home. Best memory when my mom, his Aunt Delores was pitching and she got a fast ball in the stomach. He and big brother Gene were to the rescue. I may have been the younger cousin, but as I spent many nights over at their place I was treated like family.

was a nice person used te my Dispatcher when I drove truck many years ago Sorry for your loss
My condolences to family and everyone who knew Daryl——my name is Doug Anderson my dad Leland Anderson and Daryls dad Ken Anderson were cousins and very close—-our grandfather Martin Anderson homesteaded east of Sioux Falls was an uncle to Ken Anderson another good guy just like Daryl. Ken and Agnus stopped to visit at our farm east of Sioux Falls every year going back and forth to Arizona. In the last several years I kept in touch with Daryl through Facebook.
Growing up we visited Ken and Agnus’s farm near Foxhome, Mn—-Daryl and Larry were young then helping milk cows, etc—-I remember Daryl being about 16 then, me 4 years younger, had me drive the tractor out to the pasture to get the cows in for milking, we had John Deere tractors I wasn’t used to shifting and using a foot clutch on the Allis Chalmers, a jerky ride with 12 year old like me operating the Allis——Daryl was a wonderful guy, great personality like his dad——I was very sorry to hear of his passing—-he had a good life with family and friends wished it could have been longer
God bless all the memories of Daryl Anderson
