Daryll M. “Mikey” Stigen, age 84, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, in Hillsboro, North Dakota.

Born on May 15, 1941, in Caledonia, North Dakota, Daryll grew up surrounded by the close-knit community of his hometown. He attended elementary and high school in Caledonia, graduating with the Class of 1959. Always eager to learn and work with his hands, he later pursued barbering at Moler Barber College, where he earned his associate’s degree.

Daryll led a rich and varied professional life. Over the years, he worked in construction, barbering, and truck driving—each role reflecting his strong work ethic and practical skills. Whether building something from the ground up or navigating long highways behind the wheel of a truck, Daryll approached every job with determination and pride.

Known affectionately as “Mikey” to many who loved him, Daryll was a man of deep faith and unwavering values. His belief in Christ guided his actions throughout life. He was never shy about offering advice rooted in scripture. His faith was not just spoken—it was lived through kindness, generosity, and a willingness to help wherever he could.

Daryll had a sharp mind and an even sharper wit. He was best known for his humor—always ready with a joke or clever remark that could lighten any moment. He often said you shouldn’t take life too seriously because “you’ll never get out alive anyway.” That philosophy carried him through life’s ups and downs with grace. He lived by the motto “It’ll all work out,” a phrase that reflected both his optimism and resourcefulness. A natural problem-solver with an inventive spirit, Daryll could fix nearly anything or create what was needed from scratch.

Outside of work and faith, Daryll found joy in many hobbies. He had a lifelong fascination with cars of all kinds and enjoyed talking shop with fellow enthusiasts. He loved visiting with friends over cards. A talented cook, Daryll took great pleasure in preparing meals for those around him. His kitchen was often filled with the aromas of hearty dishes made with care.

He also had a deep love for country-western culture—from classic TV shows to timeless country music tunes that echoed through his home. Children and animals held a special place in his heart; he treated them with tenderness and respect that spoke volumes about his character. Daryll’s biggest joy in life was being a father and grandfather, and he excelled in both roles.

Daryll is survived by his ex-wife Pat Bertsch; daughter Joanna Jesser; granddaughter Annika Jesser; sister Jean Wright; as well as many beloved nephews and nieces who will carry forward memories of his warmth and wisdom.

He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Pearl Stigen; brothers Deane Stigen, Zane Stigen, Robert Stigen, Lloyd Stigen; and sisters Betty Johnson, Shirley Mackereth, and Janis McCoy.

Daryll’s legacy lives on through those who knew him—as a man of faith, humor, resilience, and heart.

May his memory bring comfort to all who were blessed to share in his journey.
