David Dean Strand died August 21, 2025, after courageously fighting a difficult battle with cancer. Throughout this journey Dave never lost his sense of humor or his attitude of gratitude and he found comfort in his growing faith in the Lord.

David was born January 28, 1963 in Bismarck, ND to Edward and Shirley (Kosel) Strand. He attended school in Hazelton, Mobridge and Linton, graduating from Linton High School in 1981. He was interested in being a draftsman and attended North Dakota State University after graduation. Dave started working in the field of concrete construction at Strand Concrete in 1985, where he worked until 1987. He then began his 38 year career at Camrud Foss as lead rebar and anchor bolt installer.

Dave decided to pursue improving his health in 2006, and began running in any race from a 5k to a full marathon. He was a member of the training group, Faster.Stronger.Runner (FSR) and a long time member of Courts Plus gym, where he made many long lasting friendships. In recent years, he enjoyed pickle ball and joined the FM Pickle Ball Club, meeting an entire, new and wonderful group of friends.

He is survived by his brother, Randall (Valley City); aunts, Bernice Gullickson (Mandan), Carol Kosel, Kathy Kosel (both of Ellendale); uncles, Don (Claudette) Kosel (Ashley), Ron (Maxine) Kosel (Ellendale); multiple cousins; best friend Kelly Beyer and her children Kennedie, Emmerie and Kade (all of Fargo).

He was preceded in death by his parents; aunts, Bernice (Norman) Kruckenberg, Evelyn (Iver) Oster, Debra Kosel; and uncles, Kenneth (Betty) Kosel, Howard Kosel and Aaron Gullickson.

The family is pursuing a memorial in Dave’s honor. Any financial donations will be used toward that purpose and can be endorsed to the “Family of Dave Strand.”

  7. I knew Dave for years. Although drifted apart, all the memories I have of Dave at our house for Thanksgiving make me smile. Dave you will be missed.

  8. Whenever I saw him at Southgate Hornbacher’s as a customer, we would share our medical journeys. Each time we met he always had an upbeat, positive attitude. Always a smile on his face. This will be my memory of him. Rest Well My Friend

  9. Shelley Naumann Morton says:

David was one of my first friends, as our parents were friends and our farms were just two miles apart. We both started school at Hazelton and graduated from Linton (class of ’81). We drifted apart for a few years, but always enjoyed reconnecting. To see this tribute with him laughing and with that big grin — wow! He was blessed with so many good friends in Fargo and was taken care of up to the end. Maybe it’s not my place to say it, but…thank you all.

Rest easy, my friend, until we meet again.

  10. Dave was my 2nd cousin who was also my best friend during my last 1 1/2 years in high school. We spent many a memorable hour together playing pool, making an “un-winnable” board game, helping out at the farm and just pal’ing around. He had an infectious laugh and was just such a wonderful person and great to be around. He is very much loved – looking forward to seeing him again !

Hi Dan, I just want u to know he loved you much!! ❤️

  11. Heavenly rest dear cousin David. Your smile, laughter, faith, and kindness live on in many hearts and memories. Love Always.

  12. Dave was a wonderful man of God who taught me so much: how to laugh, not to take life too seriously, how to grow in my faith, to be kind to everyone, and to let those around me know that I love them. I have so many fantastic memories with Dave that I will forever cherish, such as playing pickleball, card games like Swoop and Speed, telling cow jokes, and sharing with him the new names I came up with for my mom, Kelly, some of those names being Sherryl, Nancy, and Karen. He even got me a shirt that said “I LOVE Sherryl.” Dave was the best gift-giver and brought so much joy to others through his thoughtfulness. If there is one thing we can all take away from him, it is to smile and laugh more. His smile was contagious, and he had one of the most unique laughs I have ever heard, one that I loved and that always brought me joy. I love you so much, Dave, forever and always. You have left a lasting impression on my heart and on my family’s hearts, and I know you are watching over us, telling cow jokes and giving me a big “SIEEEEEPPPP” up in heaven!!!!
