Dory’s service will be livestreamed below starting at 2:00 PM Saturday August 23, 2025.
Dorylee “Dory” Jean Burkhart, 84, passed away August 9, 2025 at SMP – St. Catherine’s South, Fargo surrounded by family.
Dory was born on June 31, 1941, to Frank and Stella (Nelson) Larson in the small town of Bisbee, ND. She attended a rural township school before she continued her studies at Mayville University, where she pursued her teaching degree. Dory married the love of her life, Lester Burkhart, on October 22, 1961 and they raised three boys, Marty, Kendal, and Tad. Together, they cultivated not only their land while farming but also a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and plenty of adventure. For over ten years, Dory and Lester embarked on over-the-road trucking journeys, exploring various places, and making memories while wintering in sunny Arizona.
Dory had a special talent for baking, delighting family and friends with her scrumptious cookies, breads, and traditional lefse to name a few. Her treats were always a highlight at family gatherings, underlying her deep love for those around her. She loved her time outdoors taking in the scenery wherever she went and tending to planting flowers when she could.
Dory’s greatest joy came from the time spent with her family. She treasured every moment spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought her boundless happiness.
Dory is survived by her husband, Lester; children, Marty (Tari) Burkhart, Kendal Burkhart, Tad (Tanya) Burkhart; grandchildren, Kevin (Blake Bendel) Burkhart, Derrick (Jamie) Burkhart, Alyssa Weber, Joshua (Alynn) Burkhart, Lily Burkhart; great grandchildren, Logan, Owen, and Layne Burkart, Vincent and Arianna Burkhart, and Isaac and Hannah Weber; sister, Donna (Denny) Neameyer; and sister-in-law, Louise Larson.
Dory was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Robert Larson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sanford Hospice, ALS.org, or a charity of your choice.

I’m so sorry to see this. Dory was always so much fun and game to have fun. We had some great times on our bowling team and curling team back in the Bisbee Days! Tournaments and bonspeils were the best! Great memories! My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
