Resided in: Fargo, North Dakota

Gene “Geno” Weigel, 75, Fargo, ND passed away early Monday, Oct 27th at home with his family.

Eugene Michael Weigel was born on February 22, 1950 in Oakes, ND, the son of Rokus and Barbara (Ziegler) Weigel

Gene was a State Champion wrestler and graduated from Oakes High School in 1968. He attended NDSU for a short time before enlisting in the Marines. After basic training he spent his active service during Vietnam in Hawaii and was honorably discharged in 1975. He was a proud member of the Teamsters and was a truck driver for SuperValu for 34 years.

Gene was one of a kind and tough as they come. He was always his authentic self and had no interest in your thoughts of him. He was funny and was world class at shooting the breeze. He would drop everything to help family and we knew he was out in the garage if we needed him.

On August 16, 1980, he married Teresa Bush in Fargo and they had three children, Eddy, Rokus and Rodney. “The Twins” Eddy and Rokus were born with cerebral palsy. The three of them spent countless hours in the garage drinking pop and listening to country music. In younger years, Gene would load his three boys up on Saturdays to walk the mall and was never stingy with the Orange Julius or caramel corn. Gene and Rokus were truly best friends and it wasn’t uncommon to hear them out in the garage, all the way in the house.

Gene was a year-round grill master. He would don his headlamp in the dark and grill all throughout winter. It was always delicious. His garage had an open-door policy and if a friend stopped by, they were promptly handed a beer and the laughs started flowing.

He loved riding motorcycle, a lesson he learned from his wife who had a motorcycle when they met. This shared interest led to many motorcycle runs, trips to the casino, and countless journeys to Sturgis, SD for the annual Rally. This love of riding was passed on to his son Rod, who Gene brought to Sturgis for the first time at 14 years old. The Black Hills of South Dakota was Gene’s favorite place to be and is where his ashes will be scattered after one more ride with his son.

Gene is survived by his wife, Teresa; sons, Eddy Weigel, Rokus Weigel, and Rod (Courtney) Weigel; and grandchildren, Lily, Wyatt and Maisy Weigel.

  4. My uncle Geno was a legend. All of my cousins would agree that his arrival to New Rockford every fourth of July Bush family reunion was one of the highlights of the entire trip. He very well could have been the most interesting man in the world. His character, uniqueness and unbridled commentary was always a riveting and welcome part of any visit he made to the Thomson home. Uncle Geno will always be a guide to my character as to stand firm in my authentic and unapologetically unique self.
Sending Love and condolences to all of the Weigles.
We will see you for the service.
