Glenn Sherwood Ulland was born in Grand Forks, ND. October 7, 1940 to Gerhard and Ellen (Jahnke) Ulland when his parents lived in Mayville, ND before moving to Fargo.

Glenn was baptized in Mayville, ND and was confirmed January 24, 1954, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND by Rev John Lutz. His confirmation verse 1 John 5:4 read: “For whatsoever was born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, … our faith.”
Glenn attended Roosevelt Grade School to 6th grade then to Oak Grove Jr High and Sr.High graduating in 1958. He then attended Mayville State College majoring in Social Sudies and English getting his teaching degree in 1963. He taught in several SD schools.

Glenn went to work in the Dilworth Yard of Burlington Northern, then, as a Crew Hauler/Crew Clerk in the Central Fargo Office of BN Railroad from 1972 to 2002.

Glenn was faithful to his Lord Jesus, family, friends, and his beloved Chicago Cubs. It was a source of pride to Glenn that he was a graduate of Oak Grove High School, and he kept current many of his friendships and connections from there.

Glenn referred to Immanuel as his church home, and was a charter member of the congregation. He was active serving as an Usher, teaching VBS, singing in the choir and playing Catcher on the Immanuel Softball team.

His Mom Ellen worked at the Hasty Tasty Ice Cream shop east of NDSU on 12th Ave. With a twinkle in his eye Glenn confessed “If I found a quarter in the sofa, I was gone!

Glenn was the younger tag-along to Donnell, his older sibling. Since they lived just across the street from now Roosevelt Park on 10th St North & 12th Ave., he, his brother and other boys would often get pickup baseball games going. Since Glenn was the littlest, he got to shag balls for the long ball hitters. He grinned as he said he ‘made a lot of miles’ running after the balls they hit into the open grass. Fun was homemade and great friendships grew – most notably was another young baseball friend – a boy who lived across the street from Immanuel Church’s location – Roger Maris!

Glenn’s wardrobe consisted of many, many shirts and jackets of Bison gear! He was a great fan of the NDSU Bison in every sport – men’s or women’s. He would open a conversation with “How about that Bison game!” and launch into the stats. He held Season tickets to the Bison sports for years and was always ready to head off to another event no matter the sport.

Glenn was predeceased by his parents Gerhard and Ellen Ulland, and his brother Donnell. Internment Service will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Fargo, May 17, 2025 at 10am. Glenn requested memorials be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or, Oak Grove Lutheran High School.
