Born in:
Fargo, North Dakota
Resided in:
Grandin, North Dakota
Gloria passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home, at the age of 85.
Gloria Helene Lider was born on March 6, 1940, in Fargo, ND, the daughter of Henry and Gina (Nelson) Lider. She grew up in Fargo and graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1958.
Gloria was united in marriage to Ronald Porter on June 14, 1959, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Fargo. They made their home on the dairy farm near Grandin where they farmed for many years, and raised their two sons. Gloria was very active on the family farm, always helping in any way she could – making meals, helping in the field during harvest, and always taking care of the yard on the farm.
Gloria was active in many organizations including the Dairy Women of North Dakota and enjoyed volunteering at Yunker Farm and Big Iron events, and she also served as Traill County Farm Woman of the Year in 1984. She was active in her church with the Presbyterian Women and spent many hours quilting with her friends. Gloria was a long time member of the Traill County Happy Hour Homemakers Club, served on the Traill County Social Services Board and was very instrumental in the paving of Traill County Road #1. Gloria also had the gift of creativity – she loved painting and shared those gifts with many of her family, neighbors, and friends. She was also very proud of her Norwegian heritage and mastered the talent of Rosemaling.
Throughout most of her life, for over 60 years, Gloria lived with diabetes. She took very good care of herself, managing her sugar levels and monitering her health – all which contributed to her living the best life she could until the end.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Ronald of Grandin; and her son, Mark (Donna) Porter of Hunter, ND. Gloria was preceded in death by her son, Joel Porter; and her parents, Henry and Gina.

Dear Ron, Mark & Donna. Please accept our sincere sympathy on the Passing of Gloria. Your wife & mother was a very fine Lady who did so much for the Dairy Industry, Agriculture,Church & Community. We studied Norwegian Language with Gloria & Joel over 40 years ago and always enjoyed visiting about Norway. May God Bless you all. Don & Arleeta.
Our sincere sympathy to Gloria’s family …. this is never easy! She has been so active all
of her life … smiling and happy and serving ice cream and promoting milk.
Dairy Women of North Dakota needed her enthusiasm and service.
Quilts are part of her heritage as well and sharing the work of Presbyterian
ladies in her church and far and wide. Bless her memory! Thank you, Ron,
for taking care of Gloria.
Ron, I am so sorry for your loss! Gloria was always a delight to visit, cordial and entertaining. Although I didn’t see her often, when I did she was so friendly. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. She will be missed.
Mark, Donna and Ron,
I am truly sorry to hear about Gloria’s passing! I loved her spunk! She was thoughtful and kind. She sent a beautiful card when my dad passed away and again when my son passed away. I am sorry to have missed her service, I only just found out about your loss. You have my sincere condolences and you will all be in my prayers.
