Gordon L. Bartholomay

Gordon “Gordy” Loyal Bartholomay, 90, Fargo, ND, passed away at Sanford Health surrounded by his wife, Maryann Vogel and family on September 17, 2025.

Gordy was born in Fargo, ND and raised on a farm by Sheldon, ND. Gordy attended Highland School, NE of Sheldon, until the 4th grade, when his mother, Maude (Noon) Bartholomay moved to Fargo, ND. Gordy enrolled in the Cathedral of Saint Mary School and graduated from Shanley High School in 1954. Gordy studied at the University of North Dakota graduating with a Bachelors in Business Administration. While attending school, Gordy worked part-time for Northern Improvement Company.

Gordy married Diane (Anderson) Bartholomay on August 24, 1957 at the Cathedral of Saint Mary. Gordy and Diane became the parents of Jeff and Vickie. Diane and their unborn son passed away in an accident in 1961.

On June 19, 1965, Gordy was united in marriage with Catherine “Cathy” (Mjogdalen) Bartholomay at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo, ND. During their marriage, Gordy and Cathy welcomed daughters, Beth and Sue.

Following graduation, Gordy began working at the Eide & Helmeke CPA Firm and subsequently held positions with various local businesses. Gordy and family moved to Jamestown, ND, in 1970. He earned his CPA Degree, became a partner with the Kermit Schauer CPA Firm, before eventually establishing his own practice. Gordy retired in 1995 and lived with his wife Cathy at their home on Turtle Lake, located south of Lake Park, MN, until and following Cathy’s death in 2006.

Gordy was involved in many organizations from the K of C (4th Degree Knight), TLIA, BRWD, NDANG (25+ yrs), Elks, Eagles, AMS and more. He was deeply devout and loved everything about being a Catholic.

In 2014, Gordy married Maryann Vogel at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, blending their families together. Gordy resided in Fargo with Maryann and her son, Scott, and enjoyed spending summers with the entire Vogel family (Jane, Scott, Laurie, Katie and kids) at Cotton Lake. During the past few years, the blended families played a pivotal role in supporting Gordy through multiple illnesses. Special thanks to Drs. Pat and Jane (Vogel) Indergaard who were always “on call” and there to provide Gordy with assistance whenever necessary. Scott (Vogel) who assisted Maryann and Gordy daily, is an angel on earth. His loving care for Gordy will always be appreciated.

Gordy is survived by his spouse, Maryann Vogel; brother, John Bartholomay; children, Jeffrey Bartholomay of Fargo ND, Vickie Kozuck of Lynwood, WA, Elizabeth (Todd) Ulschmid of Lake Park, MN, and Suzanne (Scott) Bartholomay of Perham, MN; nine grandchildren, Melissa (Jesse) Emery-Stone, Eric Stone, Sara (James) Ulschmid, Nicole Bartholomay, Chris (Alexa) Ulschmid, Julia Bartholomay, Daniel (Sofia) Kozuck, Josh Giesinger, and Katelyn Giesinger; and great-grandson, Lukas Emery.

  1. Tom and Claudette Heinecke says:

    With Sympathy and Condolences.

  2. Uncle Gordon, came to our house in Atlanta when I was very young. Didn’t know the exact date or year, so timeline is a guess. But I remember he took time away from the adults to come outside and throw the football with me. Made me feel like he really wanted to know me and spend time with me. That feeling never changed. He always made me feel like he wanted to know what was going on with me, even though our relationship had a lot of earthly miles between us. What a great story teller. He is going to be missed. What an example the rest of us men in the family have to live up to. Make sure people (especially those close to us) know we care about them. I bet he is having a beer with Mom and the rest of his brothers and sisters and the stories are flowing. Love You, Uncle Gordon.

  3. So many good memories of Uncle Gordy. He was our family historian, and I know we will often wish Uncle Gordy were with us to answer “that” question about a loved one that was with us many years ago. I will always be grateful for the many birthday/anniversary cards he sent. Like his brother,Ervin, we have now lost another “gentle giant” in our family. Uncle Gordy’s spirit will light the way as we all recall his remarkable life. Rest now in the arms of our Lord. We will love you into eternity.

  4. Dan and Colleen Thomas says:

O Loving God, welcome Gordy into the company of saints.
Our condolences to his family. We enjoyed his visits to Washington.

  5. Gordy was a wonderful, giving man who always had a smile and a great story. We loved his visits to the WA lake house. We will miss him greatly. Sending love and hugs to Vickie, Daniel and the entire family.

  6. Liz(Judge) & Dustin Miller says:

Vickie & Daniel – Sending love to your family, he was such a sweet man.

  7. My heartfelt sympathies to Maryann and all of Gordy’s family. He was a special man with a delightful smile and twinkle in his eye! God bless you all. You are in my prayers. Cecelia (Colby) O’Keefe.
