Gordon Robert Pickens was born on January 18, 1938, the son P. Ralph and Edith (Woodward) Pickens in Syracuse, New York. He grew up in Syracuse and received his education at Ononadaga Valley Academy. Gordon proudly served his country in the United States Airforce, entering service when he was 17, and was stationed at the Finley, ND, Airforce Base. During that time, he met his future wife, Joann Larson. They were married on September 4, 1958, in Albany, NY. Together they had three daughters.

Gordon and Joann made their home in Mayville, ND, where they raised their family. He worked as a Truck Driver for his career, working for Sandvigs (Hanson Transport) and Aasen Elevator. During his retirement years, he helped his daughter and son-in-law on their farm near Hillsboro.

Gordon enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his brother, Al, and trips back to New York to visit other family members. He loved his time golfing, playing cards, and working on puzzles.

Gordon is survived by his three daughters – Kim (Mike) Eberhardt of Fargo; Kathy (Miles) Evenson of rural Hillsboro, ND; Kori (Kyle) Fenske of Hunter, ND; his 12 grandchildren – Nicholas Eberhardt, Mindi (Eric) Mehus, Darrin (Shauna) Eberhardt, Adam (Andrea) Eberhardt, Eric (Angel) Evenson, Ethan (Cameron Marcotte) Evenson, Maggie (James) Grossman, Joelle (Nick) Anderson, Tessa (Jeremy) Stroehl, Kalli (Brandon) Egan, Jenna (Max Sinclair) Fenske, and Lindsey (Tyler Hoyt) Fenske. Also surviving are his 25 great grandchildren; his brother, Albert Pickens of Albany, NY; and several other dear relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers – Ralph Pickens, and John Pickens.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville and Hospice of the Red River Valley, for the loving care they provided to Gordon over the past year.
