grace thoemke
Grace E. Thoemke died peacefully on July 24, 2021 at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo, ND surrounded by her family. She is loved and missed by her family, including the staff at Rosewood and Hospice of the RRV. Grace was treated with loving care and was a lively resident that would be silly and dance with the staff. Grace Thoemke (Offerdahl) was born to Henry and Mabel Offerdahl on February 10, 1934. She was raised in Litchville, ND. After Grace graduated from high school, she worked in West Fargo as a bank teller. She met the love of her life, John E. Thoemke at a dance and they were married August 20, 1955. They were blessed with five sons and one daughter. They raised their family in Davenport, ND. They moved to West Fargo in 2018. John and Grace were in love for over 65 years. John would not leave Grace until her last breath, which she took after he finished his prayers for her. They were excellent dancers and usually were watched by all when they hit the dance floor. Each Sunday, they would dress in the same color for mass. All that knew them would comment on their love for each other. After the children were in school, Grace worked at the Casselton Reporter as the receptionist until her retirement in 1993. Grace was a volunteer for the Veterans Hospital for over 35 years. She was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary of West Fargo. She served by planning and hosting numerous Halloween parties, Christmas programs and support activities for veterans. Grace and John were Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus at many of the VFW events, including visits to nursing homes, hospitals and many children’s parties. She was privy to 1,000s of hopes and many dreams of children in our community. Grace was an active member in the Davenport community. She was an active member of the Davenport Senior Citizens and at St. Maurice’s Catholic Church in Kindred. One of her favorite days was Friday, so she could go to the church to meet with the ladies and do crafts and visit. Grace is survived by her husband, John; children, Jayson (Carol), John A. (Julie), Jerry (Lorrie), Jamie (Sheri), Sue Overbo (Ken), Jeff (Tanna). She was extremely proud of her seventeen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, who she adored. She is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Mabel Offerdahl; brothers, Harvey, Lee and Jay; and grandson, Tyler Thoemke.
