jack lacrosse

April 19, 1961 ~ September 21, 2025

Born in: Mohall, North Dakota
Resided in: Fargo, North Dakota

Jack LaCrosse, 64, was a loving son, brother, husband, and father. He passed away unexpectedly on September 21, 2025, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.

Jack was born April 19, 1961, to Donald (Swede) and Alda (Petterson) LaCrosse in Mohall, ND. He attended and graduated from Mohall High School in 1980, with the nickname of Duke; he participated in basketball and football but excelled in pole vaulting, even holding the school record for many years. He completed two years of trade school at Bismarck Junior College, specializing in welding.

In November of 1983 he met the love of his life, Charlotte Fode, and they married in 1986. Son, Jesse, was welcomed in June of 1988.

In December of 1983 he began working as a Field Service Tech on biomedical equipment for Universal Hospital Service (UHS), transferring to Fargo, ND, in June of 1998. UHS later changed their name to Agiliti. In April of 2025 Jack retired after a 41-year career.

Jack enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, boating and travel – he, Charlotte, and Jesse traveled to Hawaii, Scotland, London, and San Diego, to name a few places. They also traveled to several LaCrosse family reunions in Oregon, Washington, Minnesota and South Dakota. He and Charlotte even hosted the family in Fargo one year. Jack and Charlotte took several cruises and in January of 2023 they cruised with friends to celebrate 25 years of friendship.

His passion was Fargo sports, but his true passion was NDSU Bison football. He and his group of friends were famous for tailgating at The Herd Hut where Jack was the ultimate host and if he wasn’t behind the grill he was welcoming one and all into the tent, even the opposing teams’ fans. He always greeted them and thanked them for traveling to Fargo, and when traveling to away games he always made sure to talk to the opposing fans and made friends. Recently, he traveled with a group of friends to South Carolina for the game vs. The Citadel and then onto Nashville. Treasured memories were made for these Bison fans!

Jack is survived by his wife Charlotte; son, Jesse (Christina and son, Liam); grand-dog Sura; siblings Vickie Epling, Gary (Kay) LaCrosse, Barb (Jerry) Schlosser, Beth (Brian) Rodacker, Bill (Tammy) LaCrosse, Susan (Jack) Gates, Holly Watson, and Jerry LaCrosse; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Shirley Fode Jr., sisters-in-law, Brenda Jacobs and Lanette Bellerud; brothers-in-law, John (Julie) Fode III and Cory (Dawn) Fode; and aunt Margie (LaCrosse) Johnston; nieces and nephews, Laura, Alan, Jeff, Zach, Ryan, Eric, Kristin, Katie, Stacy, Lisa, Kim, Matthew, Layne, Lucas, Jessica, Matthew, Bryon II, Brandon, Josalyn, Bailey and Austin; 34 great nieces and nephews, one great-great niece, and several cousins.

In Jack’s own words, he would like to say to his huge Bison family, “Let’s go get one!”

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Words cannot express how much Jack meant to so many, he had the unique gift of befriending everyone. Gentle, kind and full of life. Always finding common ground and making friends. He was one of the first to welcome me at UHS, and our Love for Bison Football made us friends for life. (We will ignore the UND Hockey) But it was a pleasure getting to know him and I thank him for inviting me into his group at the Ground Round on Friday nights and for growing our tailgating group into what it became. Jack and Kevin grew it into something special where people loved to come by and visit! Many memories of following the Bison to new arenas and embracing the venues. I remember trying to show Jack and his group a good time I had at a German bar in North Minneapolis a year prior, telling them all about this Polka band and bar maids dressed up in authentic attire, we showed up that night to a punk rock band and no German food to be found, we made the most of it, they still had the Das Boot, Lol, which Jack had to save me from breaking! Love you, Jack! Go Bison! Rest In Peace My Friend!

    Jon

  2. Rest in peace, Jack. The Bison will miss you.

  3. I’m so very sorry for the loss of Jack, what a wonderful human gone too early in life. Hugs and Prayers Charlotte and Jesse 😢😢 there are no words for a 💔, share your memories! Sorry we won’t be able to make the celebration of life.
    Love you,
    LeAnn & Darrell Utke

  4. Thoughts and prayers to the Lacrosse family!!!

  5. My sympathy and prayers to the family. What a great guy

  6. Many great childhood memories come to my mind when I think of Jack “Duke” Lacrosse. We spent countless hours as kids playing baseball and football in a lot behind the Lacrosse house in Mohall. I am tremendously saddened by the loss of Jack. He and the rest of the Lacrosse family have always been such nice people.

  7. It’s a common theme from everyone. Jack was a wonderful, genuine nice person that would welcome everyone, and he would remember everyone he met. I recall working with him out of town in North Dakota (don’t remember the town), but he would run into someone, and they just happened to know each other. This happened a lot! Just goes to show how he touched the lives of so many people. In our work at UHS, I also can add that in my hospital accounts which Jack covered, I would ask them how they liked Jack our BioMed tech, and everyone, and that is everyone said something on the order of ‘Oh, we love Jack’. He would go out of his way (no matter how long the hours were) to make sure customers at UHS were taken care of. Its too bad that this wonderful and genuine guy was taken too soon, but Heaven just gained a #1 Bison fan!!!! Rest in Peace Jack and Go Bison!!!!!

  8. Oh Jack was one of a kind. I am forever grateful to have known him for all these years through school and beyond. All those crazy things we did in Mohall. 😎I am deeply saddened by his passing and now Jack will be cheering for the Bison 🦬 in heaven. RIP my dear friend🪽🪽you will be missed by so many. My condolences to Jack’s family.

  9. Gary & Joan (McCrory) Mortensen says:

So sorry for your loss. God bless your memories.

    • Words can’t express how I feel right now. Jack went to school with my twin boys and they excelled at football their senior year. I remember walking down the street to LaCrosse house almost every day. Summer time was filled with many baseball games along with all kinds of other things. Always enjoyed catching up with Jack when he got back to Mohall. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family. May you find peace and comfort in the days to follow. Roger

  10. Troy and Brenda Aswege says:

Brenda and I are deeply saddened because of Jack’s passing. He was a dear friend and will be deeply missed. Over the past decades we’ve hade the honor to call Jack, Charlotte and Jesse as friends and to enjoy so much time together. If you know Jack you know how he was always engaging, always enjoying to get to know new people, and always welcoming to anyone! Jack was a person who loved his sports and as wel all know Bison Football. Jack was classic and always showed “Bison Pride ”

    Arnie & Jodi. Old neighbors

  15. Charlotte and Jesse: i said so many prayers the whole week when Scott told me the news…and crushed and so many tears upon Sunday’s news. Felt fortunate we made it to Jacks retirement party and how you both reciprocated when Scott retired. The pictures and videos from the night are warming. An honorable timing for Jacks passing, to lead off BISON home coming week, with his home coming. Strength during these trying times.

  16. sorry to here about jack death he was a very nice person to me he all side hi to me when every saw me

  17. Dear Charlotte and Jesse.

I am so, so sorry for your loss and all that you are going through. Jack exuded kindness and cheer for everyone. At family reunions – it was as though there was never a gap of 4/plus years between visits with him. My heart and prayers go out to you both and all of his extended family and friends. He will always be in my heart.💗

  18. It breaks my heart can’t be there. I will always remember Jack for his love for Charlotte from the first day he laid eyes on her at the Hardee’s in Bismarck ND. It’s not good bye but see you later my friend see you later.

  19. Kevin and Janet Steinbach says:

Our condolences to Charlotte and family. Jack was truly an amazing man. The brief time I knew him was impactful. He will be missed.

  20. Charlotte, and Jesse, I have no words – I can’t imagine the pain you are feeling with the passing of your loving husband and father. I know Jack loved you both with all his heart – I could tell by the way he talked about you during our many conversations over the years at work and how he would have lunch everyday with you, Charlotte, only missing if he was out of town for business travel. Family was first always – his HOME TEAM! I know I will miss him, I’ve known him my whole career at UHS/Agiliti. I pray God will give you peace and strength to help you through those difficult days and may the memories you hold give you comfort.
