Resided in: Grand Forks, North Dakota

Jeffrey Lynn Guy, 66, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, died peacefully on March 27, 2026, at HIA Heather’s House (Hospice) in Fargo, with friends by his side for comfort.

Born on January 3, 1960, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Robinson Guy and Margaret Kent Guy, Jeff faced significant challenges in his early adult life as he struggled with addiction. To his estranged family members, he offered his sincere apologies, acknowledging the emotional and financial pain he caused those who loved him.

At age 50, he embraced recovery with deep commitment, far beyond simply going through the motions. He pursued higher education to become an addiction counselor and walked that path with authenticity. Because he had lived the experiences himself, he could listen to others’ stories with genuine understanding and speak with hard-earned authority. He built meaningful friendships with fellow counselors and caregivers.

Complications from cancer treatment forced him to retire from counseling earlier than he had hoped. Around that time, he joined the board of directors of the nonprofit Grand Forks Homes, where he attended monthly meetings and earned the respect of fellow board members until his health declined.

Jeff’s life goal was to help other addicts benefit from his experiences so they could find recovery sooner and avoid or shorten their relapses. He leaves behind stories from his life for friends and family, offering insight into his past and the difficult path many addicts walk.
