Jeffrey was born June 14, 1958, in Fargo, North Dakota to Vernon and Margaret (Sorby) Muhle. He grew up and attended schools in Fargo.

At a young age Jeffrey developed a love for music, especially Beatles Music. Jeffrey was 12 years old when he began driving his parents crazy while learning to play the drums. By the time he was 18, Jeffrey had taught himself to play guitar and by his early 20s he was mastering the piano. A talented musician, Jeffrey played in several local bands and over the years developed lifelong friendships with many fellow musicians that shared his passion for music.

A multi-talented artist, Jeffrey honed his drafting and drawing skills at Dakota Monument as a memorial design artist. In 1993, while working at the monument company, he met fellow artist and future wife, Laura Hansen. In 1998 Jeffrey and Laura were married. They made their home in Fargo, North Dakota raising 3 daughters and several pooches.

In 2008 Jeffrey and Laura began managing Memorials and Custom Stone Creations, in Fargo. Jeffrey continued to work for that company until he retired in October of 2025.

In addition to music, art and family Jeffrey loved golfing with his family members and friends, collecting miscellaneous Beatles, John Wayne, Roger Maris, Yankee memorabilia, movies and books. Another favorite pastime was relaxing in the backyard during the summer with family and friends.

  1. Jerry and Lois Novacek says:

Our sincere condolences to Jeff’s family, as well as those who knew and loved him.

  2. I am so sorry for your loss. I used to live across the street and down a few houses from where Jeff lived. My condolences to his family.
    Katie Wangstad

  3. Rest In Peace, Jeff. We were buddies in early grade school. I would bring the creepy crawlies I made from home and Jeff would give me like a nickel for two, at St. Mary”s grade school. He showed up and sang at one of the events, when he crashed the 30th Shanley reunion, like I did. We were mutually excited to see each other and we caught up. A very kind and gentle soul-all the best to his loved ones.

  4. Cindy (Thompson) Hansen says:

I’m so sorry for your loss. Keep those close memories close to your heart.

  5. I miss you already, my friend. We had so many visits in the last year and a half, over the phone and in person. You were such a comfort and good friend when we had a tragedy in our family. We sure had some good discussions! I will be forever grateful for your kind words and just being there. We had so many good times over the years. John and I will remember you forever and you will be forever in our hearts…we love you, Jeff.

  6. Jeff got in touch with me many years ago due to our shared interest in our Muhle ancestors, and we had many long phone conversations about the Muhle family, Clay County history, music, and other topics. Somehow we never managed to meet in person (Jeff was usually out working when I came north, so we might chat while he was miles away in some rural cemetery) until fall of 2025, when he was already having a lot of trouble from what turned out to be the brain tumor–lots of dizziness. Nonetheless, we had a fantastic time catching up sitting in the back yard and then went up to his music room over the garage to talk further and play some music. It never quite occurred to me that this would be our only face-to-face visit, but after so many good conversations, it was a wonderful thing that we did get to see each other and show off our piano styles. I will always treasure the memory.

  7. OMG. Can’t believe it. What a great guy. Jeff and I met when I started at NDSU. He helped me develop into a guitar player for Destiny, the band he formed and started. Talented guy. Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboard… he could hold a tune playing any of these. Great sense of humor, hard working, dedicated, guarantee he’d be there if you needed him. Big loss. My condolences to his family.
