Joel Anderson, 82, of Jamestown, ND, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024, just one day shy of his 83rd birthday. He was born on October 22, 1941, in Marion, ND, to Charles X Anderson and Mabel (Maisel) Anderson. Joel was raised on the family farm in Marion, the second youngest of 12 siblings. He attended school in Marion, where he enjoyed playing basketball and developed a strong work ethic that would stay with him throughout his life.
Joel took great pride in his work, excelling in a variety of trades. He was a skilled sheep shearer, winning numerous competitions, and a talented builder who constructed over 400 homes and buildings in the Jamestown and Marion area. Many streets and neighborhoods in Jamestown stand as a testament to his dedication and craftsmanship.
In his late teens, Joel became a Jehovah’s Witness. His faith was a central part of his life, and he shared his love for Jehovah by studying with and encouraging many others. Joel was known for his generosity, kindness, and ability to see the best in everyone. He encouraged those around him to embrace love and forgiveness, reflecting the values he cherished.
On August 24, 1963, Joel married Kate Clark. They built a beautiful home in Marion where they welcomed their two children: Ebony, adopted in 1977, and Jamal, adopted in 1980. In 1985, the family moved to Jamestown, where Joel and Kate resided until their passing.
Joel was preceded in death by his parents, Charles X and Mabel; his brothers, Gene (Bub), Dave, Jack, Paul (Bitz), Bill, Roger, Jerry, and Danny; and his sister, Nina. He is survived by his sister, Darlene; his daughter, Ebony, and her son, Saul; his son, Jamal, and his daughter, Ayanna; and his nephew, Jake, who provided loving support in the absence of his children.
A memorial service for Joel Anderson will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Jamestown, ND. A lunch reception will follow the service at The Lodge.
