Joyce V. Schoenfish

Joyce (Jensen) Johnson Schoenfish, 97, of Fargo, formerly of Wyndmere, ND died peacefully at Sanford Hospice House on April 12, 2025.

Joyce Velda Jensen was born on Sunday, March 18, 1928, on the family farm in Northwest Wyndmere Township to Max and Louise (Sanders) Jensen. She attended a one room country school for eight years and graduated from Wyndmere High School.

Following her Mother’s death when Joyce was a teenager, she helped her Dad on the farm, caring for her younger brothers, Roland and Max.

Joyce married Donald C. Johnson on April 21, 1946. They made their home in Wyndmere, ND where Donald was in business with his father and brother. Together they had six (6) children. She lived and thrived in Wyndmere, ND until Donald’s untimely death in October, 1990 at the age of sixty-six (66).

Joyce married Reverend Marvin R. Schoenfish on June 23, 1991 and moved to Fargo. Marvin passed away on April 6, 2019. Joyce continued to reside at Edgewood Vista until her death.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Max and Louise (Sanders) Jensen; her paternal grandparents, N.C. and Anna (Leschka) Jensen; her maternal grandparents, August and Augusta (Ostermann) Sanders; her first husband, Donald Johnson; her brothers, Roland and Max Jensen; her second husband, Rev. Marvin Schoenfish; sons-in-law, Thomas Gardner, Nelson Rochester and Roland (Rep) Peterson; and many brothers and sisters-in-laws.

Joyce is survived by her five daughters: Vicki Gardner, Deborah (Walter) Kaufmann, Dawn Rochester (Fred Pamer), Diane Peterson and Rebecca Johnson; one son: Miles Johnson (Gay Haugsdal); six grandchildren: Elizabeth, Kathryn, Rachel, Amalie (Joe Galati), Max (Cherie), and Kendra; five great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Sydney, Ava, Olivia, and Hendrix; five step-sons: Emil (Darlene) Schoenfish, Evan (Karyn) Schoenfish, Eldon Schoenfish, Erich (Cara) Schoenfish, and Errol (Cheri) Schoenfish; eleven step-grandchildren; fourteen step-great grandchildren; several sisters and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service of Celebration, Praise and Prayer will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND on June 4, 2025 at 11 am. Visitation with the family will be an hour before the service begins. A private family burial will take place at Elk Creek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Joyce’s family requests donations to the Peace Lutheran Kitchen Remodel Project or a charity of your choice.

Thank you to all involved with our Mom’s stay at Sanford Hospital and Sanford Hospice House. We couldn’t have asked for better care. A very very special thank you goes out to the staff at Edgewood Vista who took such good care of our Mom.
