Judy’s service will be livestreamed below at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 18, 2025:

With deep sympathy, we announce the passing of Judy Bummer Rysgaard, age 79, on June 13, 2025. Born July 18, 1945, in Scobey, Montana, Judy was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Judy resided in Fargo, ND, and after a short battle with cancer, Judy, surrounded by loved ones, peacefully and painlessly passed.

Judy spent her childhood between the family farm and the town of Scobey, MT, where her days were filled with play, laughter, and her daily chore of feeding the chickens. She was the youngest daughter of Harry and Hazel Bummer and the youngest sister to twins Lee and Cleo. School came easily to Judy, and she was blessed with lifelong friends—Peggy, Linda, Dixie, Marilyn, and Anne.

In 1981, Judy married Alfred “Al” Rysgaard after meeting at the Crosby Threshing Bee. Their wedding was held at her parents’ home in Scobey. Judy moved to Al’s farm outside Noonan, ND. Together, they raised three children, Hallie, Trevor, and Mitchell. For Judy, family was everything, and she found joy and fulfillment in motherhood.

While living in Scobey, Judy worked as secretary to the president of the bank and later worked as secretary for the hospital administrator. Once Judy and Al started their own family, Judy was a dedicated stay-at-home mom. Nothing made her prouder than her three children. While her sons were in high school, Judy worked as a substitute school cook. We are pretty sure to embarrass her sons in front of their friends.

Judy will be remembered for her kindness, her honesty, and her unwavering stubbornness. Her fondest memories included trips to Deadwood, countless moments spent with family, time spent back in Scobey with her friends, and watching Bison football. When asked what advice she would have for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she said: “Listen to your parents.” Above all, she wished to be remembered as someone who was loved, who was loving, and who was caring.

Judy is survived by her sister Cleo Koefelda of Fargo ND, daughter Hallie (Cory) Williams of Kenmare, ND, her sons Trevor (Holly) Rysgaard of West Fargo, ND, and Mitchell Rysgaard of Bismarck, ND, as well as grandchildren Marshall, Casey, DannaLee, Austin, Nathan, Dylan, Jocelyn, Kaden, Kamryn, Brynlee, Hadlee, and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Hazel Bummer, her brother, Lee Bummer, and her husband, Alfred Rysgaard.

Family brought Judy the greatest joy in life. Her family hopes her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her memory will continue to inspire kindness, laughter, and love for generations to come.

A celebration of her life will be held at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, ND, on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 10:00 am.
