  8. KKO was an amazing teacher. She made us all feel welcome with her big smile, hearty laugh, witty banter and open conversations. I’m sending my deepest condolences to all of her friends and family. She will be missed and fondly remembered.

  9. My deepest sympathies to KKO’s family and dear friends. She was a one of a kind educator and person! I’m grateful for the time I spent in her classroom, the chats & discussions outside of class, and traveling with her to many Knowledge Bowl competitions. I always appreciated her honestly, her quick-witted responses (especially to sarcastic teenagers), and her ways of teaching that made us think outside the box.

  10. She always had a funny story to tell and always cared for the students in her classes. She was a generous and funny lady.

  11. Mom Maxine Olson saw her at work at the Mercantile at Pelican Fest on July 12th. KKO still introduced her to her friends and coworkers as “My wonderful mother-in-law.” It meant the world to her.

  12. Wonderful teacher, storyteller & kind person. Thank you KKO, for the wisdom you imparted to everyone along the way, for the laughs you shared & the joy of learning you brought. You will be missed. Sorry for your loss.

  13. She was the best teacher in the world, the most caring individual, she stood up for me when I was in school. She helped me with subjects I struggled in. She was a very loving person indeed, she was more of a friend than a teacher, very beautiful person🌹❤️

    Mrs KKO

  15. Thank you KKO for the love, laughter, and leadership you shared with us (your students) and everyone else with whom you came in contact!
I hope we showed you the same amount of love and care that you showed us. ❤️

  16. KKO was a legend at PRHS!

Thought of her the other day, about when we were in her class talking about the different haunted house in town and how she was writing a book about them. I wondered if she ever did anything with it!

KKO will truly be missed by many! She definitely was one of a kind! 💖

  17. I am so deeply saddened to hear of Kathy’s passing. She and her family were a big part of my childhood and into adulthood. I have wonderful memories of their visits to the farm riding horses, playing in the river and much more that I cherish. My heart goes out to the family and I wish them love and peace during this heartbreaking time.

    With the deepest of sympathies…

    Love, Tammy.

  18. KKO was a favorite teacher to my boys. They loved her kindness, her strength, and her wit. My oldest son, Hayden, was held up by KKO during some difficult high school years. I still have the sympathy card that she wrote when he passed. She wrote that she looked forward to continuing their political debates when they met again. I imagine that he welcomed her with open arms and they are now in a heated, but always friendly and mutually respectful, debate. 🙂 She is and was well loved by so many. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. Love you, KKO!

  19. I’m so sad to learn of Kathy’s passing. She was my roommate in college and I enjoyed her friendship so much. She really lived debating but always was willing to listen to different viewpoints. My heart goes out to her family. Prayers of comfort.

  20. May KKOs memory be a blessing, and may you find comfort in the love and support of our community. We share in your sorrow and we will always remember KKO fondly and in our own special ways. She touched many lives and will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

  21. The conversations were many. She loved listening to Eric Clapton music. Wonderful memories made. She will be missed by many! Condolences to the family!

  22. I grew up hearing a couple stories about KKO from my dad, who was among one of her first classes at PRHS; and when I had KKO as a teacher, I and rest of the classroom, got to hear those stories from her perspective. By far some of my best memories! She was probably the one teacher that made such an impact on me and she will live on in the stories of her told by all that knew her!

  23. I got to know KKO during 2017–18, when I was an exchange student at Pelican Rapids. I took her psychology class and had the chance to spend time with her outside of school hours. She was a truly kind and caring person—to me and to all her students.

I often think back to how she led her class with such openness and warmth, always welcoming questions and responding with patience and kindness. She personally helped me understand the culture and even supported me by giving me garden chores.

I feel deeply grateful to her and will always carry her memory as an enduring example of goodness.

  24. You are and forever will be a Blessing to the children of Pelican Rapids KKO. Thank you for all your love and kindness and support while here.

  25. Always inspirational and sassy in the best way! Your voice to squirrels young students inspired generations of strong smart leaders! You will be missed!

  26. We are keeping Kathy’s family in our prayers, especially Susie (Elsa). Our thoughts and prayers are with you dear friend.

  27. KKO was one of my absolute favorite teacher. I have so many memories of her in just the one year she was my teacher. Memories I still remember many years later

  28. KKO was a very special teacher & role model to me, and so many other students. We’re all better people for having had her in our lives. She will be missed. We love you KKO!

  29. KKO was the absolute best. My heart hurts right now but I know she will always be with me. She helped me so much I was on the honor roll my senior year in high school. Playing games on the computer when we finished our homework was awesome.

  30. We are so sorry to hear about Kathleen. Just thinking about the entire family and sending our thoughts and love! It meant so much to have her and the Knuteson family come all the way to our wedding in Virginia several years ago. So glad we have those memories! She will be missed. Thoughts and love to Grandma K and the entire family. ❤️
