Lisa passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead, MN, at the age of 55. Lisa Jacobson was born on June 1, 1964, the daughter of Allen C. Jacobson and Elsie M. (Dalen) Jacobson. She grew up in Fargo and received her education, graduating from Fargo South High School. She was very active in Debate, loved synchronized swimming, and excelled at playing the flute – she was the only freshman to travel to Norway with the high school band. Lisa also loved spending time baking with her sister. Throughout the years, Lisa had some struggles. She made her home in Jamestown for the past few years where she worked part time. She most recently moved back to Fargo/Moorhead to be closer to healthcare that she needed. Lisa is survived by her sister, Linda Wigdahl of Fargo; her brother, Jerry Jacobson of Fargo; and her three nephews – Corey Wigdahl, Travis Wigdahl, and Jeremy Jacobson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant sister, Marna Renae Jacobson. 4. I was utterly shocked to learn of Lisa’s passing in 2019.

Lisa and I dated while attending South, probably while we were Sophomores. We went to a few rock concerts, maybe some football games and I remember seeing her in what I thought was a full production of “Hair” but was actually a musical review that South produced that year. I also remember her trying to raise money to go on the band trip to Norway. I probably met her in a class at Agassiz due to the proximity of our last names; she signed my 8th grade yearbook. We became friends and grew closer at South where her signings of my yearbooks grew longer. As a shy and awkward 17 year old with a pink Rambler I finally asked this beautiful young woman out on an actual date (maybe to the Loverboy show?) and likely about fell over when she agreed.

As I said, we dated for a while but with an emphasis on the shy and awkward part, I didn’t have the nerve to get more serious. At some point Lisa said that she was going away for a while to get some help with her mental health and we never really reconnected after that. There was no breakup or fight, we just never really got together again.

The internet makes it easy to find people if you know their full name. Lisa was one of the few people I went to High School with that I really cared about and, after moving away from Fargo, had searched for her from time to time with no verifiable results. Last month something reminded me that her middle name was Marie; I added that to my search which brought me to this Obituary, the only evidence on the internet of her existence.

I was friends with and dated a very smart young woman with many talents- a member of the Aquarians, the High School band, musical theatre performer, debate club member. Not counting the class picture, she has 5 entries in the 1980 South yearbook compared to my 0 entries. With all her promise, I am deeply saddened to learn that her life was one of struggle and ending up working part time in Jamestown.

I only wish I would have been able to reconnect with her before she passed away but it seems as if that wouldn’t have been possible given her lack of internet presence; hiring a private detective would have been too stalker-adjacent. Although I don’t remember anything she really said to me, I’ll have to be satisfied with the fact that I can still hear her voice in my head. Soft, sweet, low and always with wonder and a thirst for knowledge.

I know I have no right to ask but if anybody wants to fill in the details between High School Sophomore Lisa and Part Time Jamestown Lisa I’d be happy to hear them. Reply here or find me on social media.
