In Loving Memory of Louis “Topper” Rosenau
July 7, 1948 – October 4, 2025

Louis “Topper” Rosenau, age 77, of Grandin, North Dakota, went home to be with the Lord on October 4, 2025, peacefully in his sleep.

Born in 1948, the son of Alfred and Lillian (Fronk) Rosenau, Louis grew up on the family farm near Grandin, where he developed a lifelong love for the land. Farming was not just his livelihood but his calling, and he faithfully worked the same soil that had been tended by generations before him. Known for his hard work, humility, and good humor, Louie was respected and loved by all who knew him.

Louie attended North Dakota State University, where he was an active member of the FarmHouse Fraternity. The friendships and brotherhood he found there became a lasting part of his life, and he remained involved as a proud FarmHouse alumnus for decades. During his senior year, Louie’s life took a profound turn when his father was killed in a farm accident. With courage and faith, he returned home to Grandin to take over the family farm, carrying on his father’s legacy and honoring the family tradition of stewardship and perseverance.

A lifelong resident of the Grandin area, Louie was deeply involved in his community. He was a faithful member of the Grandin Fire Department, supporting their work and serving as a trusted neighbor in times of need. He was also a longtime active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Grandin until its closing. In his earlier years, he also served his country in the North Dakota National Guard.

Though he never married, Louie’s life was rich with relationships. He was a beloved friend to many, always ready to lend a hand, share a story, or enjoy a cup of coffee or a roll of the dice with neighbors. He loved watching the changing seasons on the farm, attending local events, and supporting youth programs.

Louie is survived by his cousins – Adele Wilson of Fargo, ND; and her family including Dan (Paula) Wilson and their children, Rachel Osborne – Paxton, Owen, and Eli; and Brant (Jayne) – Charlie and Etta; Jodi (Dale) Haug and their children, Ryan Haug and Erin (Travis) Merritt; and Tracie (Jayne) Wilson; Kathryn Vinje of Mayville, ND; and her family including Bill (Susanne) Vinje and their children Max and Toby; and Nick (Heather) Vinje and their children, Owen and Jack. Also surviving is Louie’s “Right Hand Man” – Kinsey (Kayla) Wallgren of Grandin, ND and their children Kersey and Kymber; and his most recent beloved roommate, his St. Bernard, BooBoo.

A visitation will be held from 6– 8 PM Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at WILDEMAN – BOULGER CHAPEL IN HILLSBORO, ND.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Thursday, October 9, 2025, at BOULGER FUNERAL HOME AND CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER IN FARGO, ND – with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at the Grandin Community Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Grandin Fire Department, or the Grandin Community Cemetery.

Though his hands are now at rest, the fields he tended and the lives he touched will continue to flourish in his memory.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo and Hillsboro, ND. To sign the online guest book, or to view a livestream of the funeral service, please visit our website at www.boulgerfuneralhome.com

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Uncle Louie was a great man and an excellent mentor for many FarmHouse men. God bless him.

  2. There truly was only one Louie, no one can deny that! He will be missed by many. RIP, Louie.
    Ray and Becky Foss

  3. You were always genuine, loving and beyond kind to everyone. You showed me light at the end of my tunnel. Rest in peace my friend.

  4. I will always remember Topper for the kites he brought to Easter and his wonderfully goofy Christmas cards. But more than anything, I’ll remember how he made every little accomplishment feel like a gold medal. When I was in high school swimming, he always checked in to see how my season was going and would (mostly jokingly) ask when he’d get to see me in the Olympics. Topper, you will be missed.
    Love, Erin

  5. Rest easy Uncle Louie, may the blessings of the Lord be upon you!
    God bless 🙏
    Justin Goettle
