Prayer Service and Rosary:

Luverne H. Vettel, 85, of Caledonia ND died on Saturday afternoon, October 4, 2025, at Bethany Assisted Living in Fargo, ND. Born on September 5, 1940, in Crookston, MN, to Melvin and Ethel (Englestad) Eidsmoe. Luverne lived a rich and fulfilling life.

A proud graduate of Climax High School in 1958. She was united in marriage, James Vettel, on June 17, 1959, and together they created a warm and loving home in Caledonia, ND, just celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary.

In her later years, after her children were off to school, Luverne took on roles at the Shelly and Halstad grocery stores, but her true joy came from spending time with family and friends. Whether it was lively games of cards, enthusiastic board games, or tackling puzzles, Luverne made every moment special. Annual family reunions by the lake were a highlight for her each summer, where laughter and good memories filled the air. She also loved to travel, with adventurous trips to California, Colorado, Oregon, and Hawaii to visit loved ones.

A passionate sports fan, Luverne could often be found cheering on her favorite teams, including the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, Lynx, and Wild, with her trademark enthusiasm.

Luverne is survived by her husband James; children, Timothy (Sherri) Vettel of Westminster CO, Christopher Vettel of Caledonia, ND, Pamela (Matthew) Koehmstedt of West Fargo, ND, and Jeffrey (Marcia) Vettel of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Matthew (Anita) Vettel of Goddard, KS, Maggie (Derek) Waldbillig of West St. Paul MN, Emily (Traven) Medawar of Rochester, MN, Noah Vettel of Johnston, IA and Myles Vettel of Rochester, MN; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene Aanden; and sisters-in-law Marian Eidsmoe and Linda Vettel.

Luverne is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Myles Eidsmoe; brothers-in-law, Thomas Vettel and John Aanden.

In honor of Luverne, memorials can be made to the Caledonia Cemetery.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Sympathy to Luverne’s family. I have good memories of growing up with Luverne in Nielsville.
    Blessings, Eleanore Tronnes Sorenson

  2. Luverne was one of the kindest people we have ever known. She always had a smile on her face and was a ray of sunshine wherever she went. A very special memory was when our youngest daughter Alix had senior awards day. Luverne was Mom’s traveling companion all the way to Montana. She was so kind to Alix and so engaged in her awards day you would have thought she was also a Grandma to Alix. Luverne made the world a better place. She will be missed be so many. Our deepest sympathy,
    Patrice and Mitch Elliott

  3. In loving memory. I am in Rome right now and will light a candle
    Robin Millar.

  4. So many memories of Laverne as a cousin I always looked up to and loved being around her. My memories of when I was young and we stayed at their house when our mom was ill. Her wedding was so beautiful ❤️ and her first born Tim was my ring bearer. We will miss her smiling face . Love to the family as we cannot be there .❤️
