December 11, 1954 ~ May 12, 2025

Born in: Deer Lodge, Montana
Resided in: Fargo, North Dakota

Mack Nay was born December 11, 1954 in Deer Lodge, Montana to Albert and Teresa Nay.

Mack lived with his grandparents and later his aunt, in Montana, until he was 13 years old, at which time he moved to what was known as the Grafton State School. He received his diploma from the school in 1979 and proudly displayed it at his home. He left Grafton, ND in 1981, moving to Fargo, ND.

Mack received supports from Friendship and Fraser Inc, while living in their group homes before moving to an apartment in 1988, at which time he entered the Community Survival Program, which eventually became Community Living Services (CLS). He would receive supports from CLS until his passing in May of 2025.

Mack made his home in Fargo and a family out of the many people he encountered over the years. His generous hugs, infectious smile, and twinkling (I’ve got something up my sleeve) eyes will be missed by many of us. Rest in peace Mr. Nay, you were one of a kind!

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Mack lived in the same apartment building as my husband and I when we were the apartment managers in 1991-1992. He was always fun to talk to and generous with his time. We have fun memories of Mack and often wondered about him after we moved. May he rest in peace.

  2. Mack, Thanks for being a part of my life for so many years. Thanks for making life interesting. Thanks for bringing many laughs and smiles to brighten the days. Ruby will miss spotting you walking around town. May you find all your dreams in Heaven. XO

  3. Mack .. you brought so many smiles to my family! We loved you and know you are finally at peace now. You spent Christmas..4 th of July and many other special days at our homes and you made it so much fun.. we will never forget you.

  4. We loved Mack!
I used to own a Carwash called Universal Carwash on south University and that’s where I met the great Mack sometime in the early 2000’s.
Mack used to love looking through quarters and telling me what or who was on every states quarter.
He would point things out around my Carwash that he thought should be fixed or painted.
Mack would hang out for hours in my office and I’d feed him chili or tacos or even left overs.
We got to be friends and I’d drive him home or take him to get a burger.
Mack loved showing off his movie collection or showing me little collectibles he picked up here or there.
Mack was so kind and giving and absolutely ONE OF A KIND!
We’ve had some fun times with Mac and will miss him forever!
Rest easy in Heaven Mack my friend!

    • What a great story. Thank you for sharing. He loved his time spent walking down and around South University. Your kindness is what the world needs.

  5. Mack, was a good person I saw him alot around town and on city bus I didn’t know him very well but he sure liked to talk and share with others.very friendly and warm person.now at peace in heaven.

  6. Mack was a fascinating guy. I used to sit and chat with him when he would stop by the restaurant, and his stories were the best. He always talked about wanting to chase tornados in Oklahoma, and I can only hope that he can go eternally storm chasing now. RIP!

  7. Mack would always come into The Bowler when I worked there from 2001-2008. He’d talk about quarters, chasing tornados in Oklahoma, and we’d b.s. with him. We may have given him free bowling a time or two!
He was a special guy and recognized by many!

  8. Mack would always come to the theater every Saturday for as long as I can remember. He would give change or treats to all the workers. He was super nice and always wanted to talk!

  9. Mack was an absolutely lovely guy I would see out and about, mainly near the MATBUS station downtown. He loved to chat, and the thing I remember most about him is that if he had candy or gum, he would ask me or anyone if they would like a piece. Little things like that often define larger themes of generosity, kindness and being a caring person. Seeing Mack and interacting with him always made my day better. So sorry to hear of his passing.
